CALL TAKER - 911 COMMUNICATIONS

CLASSIFICATION TITLE: COMMUNICATIONS CALL TAKER This is an on-the-job training position taking emergency and non-emergency calls. PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION This is an on-the-job training position taking emergency and non-emergency calls. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned. Answers 911/emergency and non-emergency calls from the public for police, fire, and emergency medical services (EMS) response and codes all request for Police, Fire and EMS assistance. Gives lifesaving and pre‑arrival instructions to callers in emergency situations and maintains appropriate logs. Operates emergency communication systems simultaneously, to include: computers, radios, and phones. Participates in coordinating emergency responses and assistance from external agencies. Accesses a variety of computer information systems and databases to retrieve, verify, and enter data. Performs clerical support tasks which may include scanning, making photocopies, locating telephone numbers and addresses, and researching and contacting business/residence call outs as necessary. Takes and relays messages to officers, other divisions, or local agencies; places calls for officers and supervisors. ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS Performs other related duties as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS High School Diploma or GED. This is a training position, no experience necessary. Must be at least 18 years of age. Must be a citizen of the United States or a repatriated or naturalized citizen of the United States. Must obtain and maintain State of Georgia Telecommunications Certification, Emergency Medical Dispatch, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and First Aid certifications. Must pass a background investigation and obtain a GCIC/NCIC certification within one year of hire date. May be required to attain and maintain additional certifications specific to assigned unit. ADA COMPLIANCE Physical Ability Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5‑10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation. Sensory Requirements Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally. Environmental Factors Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
