Fitness Coordinator

Summary Position: Program Manager – Fitness, Sports, and Deployed Forces Support Branch, Fleet Readiness, Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC), NAS Pensacola. The incumbent assists with oversight of one or more fitness programs at the installation. Duties and Responsibilities Plan and implement comprehensive fitness programs for active/retires, authorized civilians, contractors, and dependents. Provide guidance to Fitness Center staff in the absence of the Fitness Director. Plan, organize, and conduct fitness‑specific conditioning sessions, assessments, clinics, or seminars. Ensure Sports Specialists are trained and certified to lead Command physical training (PT) and group exercise. Provide guidance and recommendations on the Command Physical Readiness Program; deliver initial and refresher training for Command Fitness Leaders. Attend installation meetings related to the fitness program. Integrate exercise, nutrition, and behavioral health education programs into the installation fitness program. Assist in conducting training clinics covering topics such as operational fitness, fueling systems, conditioning, strength, endurance, body composition, flexibility, and nutrition education. Coordinate equipment repairs and ensure all rules and regulations for fitness areas are posted and observed. Serve as the subject matter expert on exercise science for the installation. Plan and coordinate recurring/non‑recurring activities, special events, and joint community undertakings while maximizing resources and aligning with MWR principles. Assist the Fitness Program Director in updating the strategic plan and reports. Project income from fees and charges; monitor inventories, cost controls, patron counts, and maintain records. Connect departmental plans to CNIC and MWR priorities, including recruitment and retention. Coordinate program efforts with other Fitness Division team members. Collaborate with other MWR personnel regarding scheduling, supervision, and facility guidelines. Identify target groups for co‑sponsored special programs. Develop and maintain a publicity and marketing plan, including public relations duties such as preparing flyers, press releases, and brochures. Arrange equipment, supplies, and services needed to execute scheduled programs; recommend improvements. Ensure programs and equipment use comply with sanitation, health, and safety regulations. Implement a written safety/risk management plan; schedule First Aid/CPR training for staff and conduct safety inspections. Prepare training manuals and conduct staff meetings and training sessions. Schedule recreation facilities and supervise facility condition. Provide clerical support: program registration, telephone answering, correspondence with other divisions or agencies, and public inquiries. Assist with reservations, contracts, and access lists for fitness, sports, and aquatics facilities. Direct staff work, assign based on priorities and capabilities, and conduct annual performance reviews. Participate in staffing decisions and ensure staff training and disciplinary processes are properly handled. Directly supervise assigned staff. Requirements Meet Federal Employment suitability requirements and complete background investigation. Pass E‑Verify employment verification check. Complete Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process with two forms of identification. May be required to pass pre‑employment examinations. Maintain a valid State driver’s license to operate motor vehicles. Use Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer for salary. Male applicants must be registered or exempt from Selective Service. Work involves walking, sitting, standing, and lifting up to 45 pounds. Qualifications Knowledge and experience in fitness, aquatics, and/or sports program management. Familiarity with DoD, Navy, and CNIC policies governing recreation activity certifications. Knowledge of NAF and APF funding, government procurement, cash handling, and fiscal management. Knowledge of specialty equipment and asset management. For Aquatics roles: knowledge of lifeguard roles, beach environment safety, pool chemical testing, and rescue coordination. For Sports roles: knowledge of athletic event governing body rules. For Fitness roles: knowledge of anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, military fitness standards, and exercise science. Ability to plan and execute comprehensive fitness, aquatics, or sports programs tailored to community needs. Ability to organize and utilize community resources. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Strong analytical, reporting, supervisory, presentation, and communication skills. Education and Certifications Preferred: four‑year degree in exercise science or related field, professional health/fitness certification, or at least three years of experience in the fitness industry.
