Job Opportunity: Physician Advisor

Our organization, in collaboration with a prominent healthcare system, is looking for a full-time Physician Advisor. This role is essential for achieving the hospital's objectives related to the efficient utilization of healthcare resources. The Physician Advisor will act as the main physician contact for various issues related to hospital resource use, including provider practice patterns, resource overuse and underuse, medical necessity, care levels, care progression, length of stay management, denial management, and adherence to regulations from both governmental and private payers, as well as physician documentation and coding standards.

• Work closely with case management and finance teams to identify opportunities for improvement.
• Develop and implement strategies to enhance the use of hospital resources, ensuring high-quality care and financial viability.
• Collaborate with hospital and departmental leadership, as well as frontline medical staff, including attending physicians, residents, and advanced practice providers.
• Support the creation and execution of protocols, initiatives, and training programs aimed at optimizing care levels, length of stay, documentation, regulatory compliance, hospital coding, and denial management.

• MD or DO degree with Board Certification in a relevant specialty.
• Valid New York State medical license, DEA registration, and Medicaid number.
• Willingness to engage in clinical practice within the primary specialty.
• A minimum of five years of experience in medical practice.
• Strong foundation in utilization management and quality improvement.
• Familiarity with case management operations and knowledge of MCG and Interqual medical necessity criteria.
• Proficient in computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Epic, and Cisco WebEx.
