Neighborhood Development Coordinator

Neighborhood Development Coordinator Classification: Temporary, Non-Exempt Hourly (June 1 – September 1, 2026; benefits ineligible) Compensation: $20/hour Reports to: Director of Neighborhood Development Hours: 31 hours per week. Hours will be flexible and dependent on the needs of the organization and neighborhood outreach schedule. Hours may occur on weekends and evenings. Reliable Mode of Transportation is necessary to reach various sites throughout KCK

Build WyCo is a comprehensive community development corporation whose mission is to stabilize, revitalize, and reinvest in Kansas City, Kansas through improved housing and related quality of life initiatives. We build and renovate beautiful, efficient, durable, healthy homes; promote sustainable homeownership through one-on-one coaching, classes, and financial assistance; and engage and strengthen neighborhoods through health and arts initiatives.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Neighborhood Development Coordinator will assist Build WyCo’s Neighborhood Development work in a broad range of tasks. They will aide Build WyCo’s Director of Neighborhood Development to push forward the Oak Grove Redevelopment plan. They may also perform administrative and some on-site tasks for new construction and renovation project management. This position will also aide Build Build WyCo’s Community Engagement Manager with a neighborhood survey. This position is also meant to provide broad exposure to community, real estate, neighborhood, and affordable housing development. The assistant will be invited to various meetings solely for the purpose of observation.

THE WORK

_Oak Grove Neighborhood Development Plan: Assist with the community engagement process via workshops, document & presentation creation, hospitality and meeting coordination, marketing, and being present. _ Review all past neighborhood plans touching the Oak Grove Neighborhood, and all data collecting to date Work with Oak Grove leadership to schedule workshops and participate in outreach at community events held by others Coordinate marketing and distribution of invitations to workshops events Communicate with stakeholders or other invitees for preparation and follow-up of planning activities Create document of Redevelopment Plan: Includes graphic design, writing, mapping, and info graphics Maintain a stakeholder contact list Attend monthly/bi monthly neighborhood events Create interactive & engaging materials for workshops During Community Workshops: Set up and tear down workshop materials Welcome attendees and assist with sign-in Facilitate small group discussions (if appropriate) Conduct resident interviews or surveys Take notes and photos during meetings Visit construction sites to observe and support project coordination. Collect and synthesize data, neighborhood input, and information collection into easily understood documents Coordinate food & beverages for neighborhood workshops Create power points to update or “report out” progress to neighborhood residents Other duties as assigned by Director of Neighborhood Development Visit construction sites to verify progress of work Various administrative tasks to both start and close out new construction projects

Ability to take ideas and translate them into info graphics

S KILLS AND KNOWLEDGE ****

Education in Community Development, City Planning, Public Administration, Architecture, or related field preferred. Strong technology skills and aptitude Microsoft Office Ability to become Familiar with local mapping and online record tools Various online file sharing platforms Adobe Suite Basic Graphic Design File management Spanish and English speaking skills Basic photography skills

ENVIRONMENTAL AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

15-40% of time will be spent in the community, regularly subject to environmental conditions such as cold, hot, humid, windy or wet conditions on uneven surfaces. When not out in the community, work is primarily conducted in a typical office environment with temperature control and natural and artificial light. Ability to communicate effectively (verbally, in writing, by telephone/ video-conference) with internal/external vendors and stakeholders, and perform customary administrative duties. Ability to withstand occasional exposure to noise, exposure to dust, and working with commonly present environmental chemicals, fumes or fragrances. Ability to occasionally navigate through active construction sites.
