Network ArchitectRichmond, VA (Remote)6-12 months contractClient domain: StateInterview Type: VideoPosition Summary: VDOT's Information Technology Division seeks a Network Architect to join the Enterprise Architecture team. This role focuses on strategic planning, network design, and implementing a long-term vision to ensure alignment with VDOT's objectives. The Network Architect will configure network systems to enable secure, efficient user access to applications and data while adhering to security standards. Responsibilities include designing and documenting network solutions, hardware configuration, and providing technology guidance for future network scalability.Key Responsibilities:Design comprehensive network architectures integrating LANs, WANs, wireless networks, and VPNs to meet organizational requirements.Document all aspects of the network implementation process.Monitor network performance and address latency and security concerns.Conduct regular network upgrades for efficiency improvements.Develop and document standards for network design patterns.Analyze network traffic and performance to plan future upgrades.Collaborate with IT staff, third-party vendors, and software providers to meet network requirements.Research, evaluate, and recommend new networking technologies and solutions.Define operations for multisite network environments and software applications.Train, mentor, and guide team members in network design practices.Manage complex projects across multiple architecture domains.Align network architecture strategy with business goals and advocate for technology strategies.Required Skills and Experience:Technical Design & Architecture: Expertise in network equipment and software system design and architecture – 7 years.Network Security & Compliance: Experience prioritizing security and compliance, including security protocols and firewalls – 7 years.Network Security & Cloud Networking: Familiarity with security frameworks, cloud networking, virtualization technologies, and IoT infrastructure – 7 years.Documentation & Presentation: Skilled in using documentation tools and creating network design documents and presentations, specifically with Visio – 7 years.Multi-Tier Network Design: Experience in designing, building, and maintaining complex, multi-tier networks – 5 years.Network Simulation & Modeling Tools: Proficiency in network design and architecture planning, including simulation and modeling – 5 years.Site Assessments: Conduct site assessments, identify network issues, and develop hierarchical network designs – 5 years.Cloud Solutions Implementation: Designed and implemented global Azure cloud solutions, including migrating key servers to cloud-based services – 5 years.
