Pet Stylist at Petco As a Pet Stylist, you will provide professional grooming services to pets, ensuring each animal receives exceptional care, stays comfortable, and leaves looking their best. Responsibilities Perform bathing, drying, brushing, haircuts, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and gland cleaning following pet parent instructions and breed standards. Operate and maintain grooming instruments such as clippers, blades, shears, brushes, and dryers. Prioritize pet safety and well‑being, monitoring animals for discomfort or illness and reporting concerns to owners or management. Easily assess individual pet needs based on coat type, skin condition, and temperament. Provide high‑quality customer service to pet parents, addressing inquiries, offering grooming recommendations, and resolving issues promptly. Educate pet parents on at‑home grooming maintenance and product usage. Maintain a clean, sanitary grooming area, disinfecting tools and equipment and performing daily and weekly cleaning tasks according to company policies. Use knowledge of grooming policies and standards to ensure consistency and quality across all salon activities. Support or supervise entry‑level trainees when the Grooming Salon Leader is absent. Essential Job Functions Consistently perform all listed duties with or without supervision, adapting to moderate to limited supervision and ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and company procedures. Education/Experience Completion of the Pet Stylist Apprentice program or equivalent professional grooming experience and/or technical training. High‑school diploma or GED preferred. Strong problem‑solving and independent judgment using grooming skills to address routine to moderate challenges. Commitment to productivity, performance, and ownership of the grooming salon role. High attention to detail, achieving the highest grooming standards. Genuine passion for animals and ongoing career dedication to pet grooming. Expert knowledge of dog breeds, grooming requirements, health issues, and common behaviors. Proficiency in breed‑specific cuts, styling techniques, and grooming standards. Strong verbal and written communication skills for interactions with pet parents and team members. Ability to handle pets of all sizes and temperaments with care and empathy. Availability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as required by the grooming schedule. Work Environment Predominantly indoor salon work involving bending, kneeling, lifting up to 30 pounds, and prolonged standing. Tasks may require use of ladders or vacuums.
