Enforce local, state, and federal laws to protect life and property

Patrol assigned areas to deter crime and ensure public safety

Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service

Investigate crimes by collecting evidence and interviewing victims and witnesses

Prepare accurate reports and maintain detailed records

Make arrests and issue citations when appropriate

Enforce traffic laws and respond to traffic accidents

Provide assistance and support to individuals in crisis situations

Engage with the community to build trust and promote crime prevention

Testify in court and work with prosecutors and other justice partners

Uphold departmental policies, ethical standards, and professional conduct

U.S. Citizen

High School graduate; (60+ college credit hours preferred)

21 years old at time of graduation from the Police Academy (20 years and 3 months old at time of application)

Possess a valid driver's license and at least 6 months driving experience

Successfully complete all requirements of the Background and Selection Process

The Prince George's County Police Department is partnering with the National Testing Network (NTN) to administer the written examination. Review the Frequently Asked Questions and take an online practice test (if desired). Upon completion of your scheduled exam, scores are automatically forwarded. Candidates who attain a passing score on the entry-level exam will be placed on the eligibility list. Police Department Recruiters will contact candidates on the list and will invite them to participate in further stages of the selection process. National Testing Network is a service provided to conduct entry-level testing in a standardized, professional environment. National Testing Network does not replace the Prince George's County Police Department's responsibility and decision-making in the testing process.
