HVAC/ Refrigeration Tech

Job Overview We are seeking an HVAC/Refrigeration Technician to install, maintain, operate, calibrate, repair and troubleshoot refrigeration, air conditioning and air volume equipment and associated control systems within a pharmaceuticals manufacturing facility. The technician works under the supervision of the Maintenance and Utilities Supervisor and the maintenance team leader, ensuring compliance with company operating procedures, government regulations and cGMP. Essential Responsibilities Install, maintain, calibrate, repair, overhaul, and operate HVAC equipment including compressors, pumps, evaporators, expansion valves, solenoid valves, controls, condensers, and related components. Ensure compliance with CFC‑related regulations and certify refrigerant handling in accordance with EPA 40CFR Part82. Troubleshoot and adjust HVAC systems and air volume control equipment to maintain temperature, humidity and airflow conditions. Monitor and measure pressure drop of HVAC filters, replace as necessary, and maintain system integrity and safety requirements. Clean HVAC coils, evaporators and condensers using chemicals and high‑pressure wash units. Operate Building Automation Systems (BAS) terminals to monitor, troubleshoot and maintain system performance; respond to alarms and prioritise corrective actions. Work from work orders and PM checklists, maintaining cGMP‑compliant records and logs in daily labor records. Provide routine rigging and alignment work for refrigeration systems. Assist supervisors in scheduling and prioritising work orders, estimating labor and material, and ordering spare parts and tools. Participate in HAZOPS, waste walkthroughs, Kaizen events, quality, safety and environmental initiatives. Key Equipment Portable and fixed power and hand tools, oxyacetylene torch, chemical cleaning equipment, protective clothing and safety devices. Gauge manifolds, electronic/electric/pneumatic measuring devices, two‑way radios, portable vacuum pumps, refrigerant/heat transfer/lubrication media containers and handling equipment. Maintenance rigging equipment. Reclaiming, recycling and recovery systems for CFC, HCFC and HFC leak detection. Required Education and Experience High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) and Universal Refrigerant Certification required. Extensive experience is specified as follows: At least 3years full‑time experience as an HVAC/Refrigeration mechanic maintaining and troubleshooting commercial or industrial refrigeration and air conditioning equipment and associated controls, including 20‑ton systems or low‑temperature systems and interface with automated building/refrigeration control systems. Or completion of an approved Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Mechanic Apprentice Program. Or verified military training equivalent to journeyman apprenticeship and 3years recent full‑time military experience. Or recent employment as Air Conditioning/Refrigeration Mechanic at our company within the last 7years. Desirable Technical Skills Training on specific HVAC, Refrigeration and Direct Digital Control vendors. Experience maintaining centrifugal chillers, cascade refrigeration systems, screw compressors and DOC systems. Proficiency in testing, adjusting and balancing HVAC systems and calibrating HVAC instrumentation. Special Job Features Heavy lifting, use of solvent, acids, heat transfer media, dust and dirt. Possibly work in confined spaces, roofs, at heights and within areas of potentially infectious agents. Availability to answer emergencies, carry pager or radio, and required immunizations.
