Health Information Specialist I

Position Overview Entry‑level Associate – Medical Record Requests processing. The role ensures timely, accurate release of patient information, safeguards privacy, and provides excellent customer service. Key Responsibilities Receive and process patient health information requests in accordance with company and facility policies. Maintain confidentiality and security of all privileged information. Use company and facility software to manage records. Adhere to the company’s and customer facility’s Code of Conduct and policies. Inform manager of work status, site difficulties, and/or fluctuating volumes. Assist with additional duties as needed. Apply medical privacy regulations to prevent unauthorized disclosure. Manage patient health records and ensure compliance with HIPAA standards. Prepare new patient charts from paper or electronic sources. Assemble medical records in standard order and verify accuracy and completeness. Create digital images of paperwork for electronic medical records. Respond to requests for patient records from internal and external sources, retrieving and transmitting them appropriately. Answer inbound and outbound calls. Assist with patient walk‑ins, faxes, mail, and data entry. Meet productivity expectations as outlined for the specific site. Schedule pick‑ups as needed. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. Ability to commute between locations and to work overtime during peak seasons. Basic computer proficiency with phones, fax machines, printers and general office equipment. Professional verbal and written communication skills in English. Detail‑oriented and quality focused with accurate and compliant medical records. Strong data entry skills. Minimum supervision required, with ability to respond to changing priorities. Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment. Strong customer service and clerical skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel). Comfortable working in a high‑volume production environment. Medical office experience preferred. Willingness to learn and grow within Datavant. Bonus Skills Experience in a healthcare environment. Previous production or metric‑based work experience. In‑person customer service experience. Ability to build relationships with on‑site clients and customers. Comfortable offering process improvement ideas and feedback to stakeholders. Benefits Full‑time, Monday‑Friday 7:30 am–4:00 pm, onsite in Appleton, WI.
