Job Title: Facilities Technician

Job Description

The Facilities Technician will perform general maintenance and repair work throughout a large retail mall, focusing on basic upkeep of building systems and interior finishes. This role handles day-to-day work orders, minor repairs, and preventive maintenance, while specialized or high-level repairs are completed by external vendors.

Responsibilities

• Complete assigned work orders in a timely and professional manner throughout the mall.
• Perform general facilities maintenance, including patching and repairing drywall and wall surfaces.
• Install, replace, and maintain light fixtures and related electrical components within scope of basic maintenance.
• Carry out minor plumbing repairs such as fixing leaks, replacing fixtures, and clearing minor clogs as needed.
• Assist with minor HVAC tasks, including basic checks, filter changes, and simple adjustments under guidance.
• Inspect facility areas regularly to identify maintenance needs and report issues that require vendor support or advanced troubleshooting.
• Coordinate with external vendors by preparing areas, providing access, and supporting high-level repair activities when required.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area and ensure tools and equipment are used and stored properly.
• Respond to maintenance requests from mall management and tenants, prioritizing tasks based on urgency and impact.
• Perform basic upkeep of both interior and exterior areas, including occasional outdoor work as needed.
• Follow safety procedures and building guidelines while working in occupied public spaces.
• Document work performed and communicate status updates to supervisors or facility management.

Essential Skills

• At least 2 years of maintenance experience in a commercial or residential setting.
• Basic knowledge of electrical systems sufficient to install and maintain light fixtures and perform minor electrical tasks.
• Basic plumbing skills, including the ability to perform minor repairs and maintenance.
• Basic understanding of HVAC systems and the ability to perform minor HVAC tasks within a facilities environment.
• General facilities maintenance experience, including drywall patching and routine building upkeep.
• Ability to work comfortably both indoors and outdoors as required by maintenance tasks.
• Capability to complete work orders independently and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
• Commitment to safety practices when working in a public, retail environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working in a large commercial facility, such as a mall or retail property.
• Familiarity with a variety of building trades, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and general maintenance.
• Comfort working in a high-traffic environment with tenants, customers, and other staff present.
• Willingness to support vendors and contractors performing specialized or complex repairs.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail in identifying and addressing maintenance issues.
• Good communication skills to interact with facility management and tenants.

Work Environment

The role is based in a large, established indoor retail mall environment with most work (approximately 80%) performed indoors and occasional tasks outdoors. The facility is a multi-decade-old building that is well maintained, providing a mix of modern systems and legacy infrastructure. The schedule follows a Monday through Friday structure with Saturday work currently required; technicians receive Sunday and one additional day off during the week for a total of 40 hours. Tools are provided by the employer, and work is performed in a public, high-traffic setting where professionalism and adherence to safety procedures are essential.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Austin, TX.

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $25.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

This is a fully onsite position in Austin,TX.
