Overview The Office of Admissions at the University of Minnesota Morris is accepting applications for two Admissions Counselor positions. A key member of the admissions team, an Admissions Counselor must be enthusiastic, highly motivated, and able to articulate the values and objectives of a liberal arts and sciences institution to attract, recruit, and admit prepared students to the University of Minnesota Morris. The selected individual will represent Morris to the public and provide high‑quality service to prospective students and their families. The counselor will collaborate with campus members to support students and advance efforts to create a welcoming and inclusive environment at UMN Morris. The duties of the position will require travel, including extended overnight stays, and flexible evening and weekend hours. Responsibilities Design a recruitment plan tailored for the assigned territory to meet short‑term and long‑term goals. Plan and execute a territory management plan, conducting student recruitment/outreach activities on and off campus as well as virtually. Planned participation in recruitment and enrollment activities, including open houses, regional presentations, orientation programs, career days, regional and national college fairs, scholarship days, and virtual events. Build brand awareness and reputation among prospective student and parent audiences. Develop and present public presentations designed to promote the University. Meet with prospective students and parents to provide individual counseling on educational options. Monitor student behavior trends in the territory and adjust the recruiting plan accordingly. Review applications and make admissions decisions based on academic requirements and program choice compatibility. Engage in extensive phone calls, email and text outreach to applicants within the assigned recruitment territory. Represent Morris at on‑campus and off‑campus events as needed. Meet individual recruitment goals and objectives. Anticipate and respond to the needs of guests from diverse cultures and backgrounds. Model and promote respect and effective partnerships in advancing Morris's efforts to build an inclusive, respectful campus community. Perform other duties as assigned. Appointment Details This is a full‑time, twelve‑month, annually renewable academic and administrative staff appointment. The position reports to the Director of Admissions. Note: This position is not eligible for H‑1B or Green Card sponsorship and does not offer a STEM OPT training program. Qualifications Bachelor's degree and at least two years of experience, or a master’s degree. Demonstrated understanding and strong commitment to the value of a liberal arts education, or the ability to quickly obtain such knowledge. Demonstrated commitment to building a diverse, inclusive campus and community. Excellent public speaking and writing skills, and strong organizational skills. Ability to work effectively within a team environment. Demonstrated commitment to recruiting a diverse student population. Ability to travel a minimum of 12 weeks annually, including extended overnight stays, and flexible evening and weekend hours. Valid driver’s license. Previous experience in college admissions, college counseling, or related areas of higher education. Experience as an undergraduate admissions intern, student ambassador, or student volunteer will be considered. Knowledge and experience using social media tools. Ability to work under pressure, in a team atmosphere, and with a minimum of direct supervision. Pay and Benefits Pay Range: $45,506 – 46,875, depending on education, qualifications, and experience.
