Head Cross-Country Coach
Tribal School
Department of Human Services
Contracted $3500.00/Temporary/Part -Time
The Head Cross-Country Coach shall be responsible for establishing and maintaining effective school leadership to enable success for all. As an administrative team leader, the Coach will be highly visible, work toward success for all, be an active listener, and promote a caring, supportive, healthy, and safe learning environment. The Coach must also value staff input, maintain high performance standards, know effective instructional practices, be visible in classrooms, work collaboratively to solve problems, and encourage effective communication in the school and its communities.
Examples of Work Performed:
Knowledge of Cross-Country running sport.
Knowledge of safety regulations, rules, and policies that govern the cross-country sport, including Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) rules and regulations.
Knowledge of equipment needed and used in the sport and how to maintain it.
Knowledge of physical fitness, Endurance training requirements, and a proper and safe diet regime to be used by young athletes.
Ability to assume responsibility in an educational environment to work with students, families, and colleagues.
Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents/guardians, supervisors and colleagues.
Ability to prepare curriculum and training schedules for the sport activity.
Ability to provide assistance for students to maintain academic eligibility for participation in the sport.
Coach will connect with parents for concerns regarding student performance.
Work with the Athletic Director in scheduling facilities.
Assign duties to the assistant coach as necessary.
Coach and instruct players, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
Observe team during participation to determine the needs for improvements.
Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior and provide proper supervision of the athletes at all times.
Monitor the academic performance of the team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met.
Follow state, regional and district regulations governing the athletic program.
Model sport-like behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
Acts as a team representative and promotes the sport by communicating with the new media, booster clubs, service clubs and other organizations.
Follow established procedures for the proper care, maintenance and requisitioning of equipment, supplies, and uniforms.
Work with the Athletic Director to develop a policy for awards and submit a list of award winners at the end of the season.
Maintain eligibility forms, emergency data cards, insurance records, equipment inventory and other related records.
Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge and some experience as a coach or assistant coach at the high school level or college level.
Ability to demonstrate effective coaching techniques and skills.
Ability to demonstrate thorough knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, parents, and students.
Minimum Requirements:
At least 6 months prior experience as a Coach at the High School/Middle School level, or any combination of experience working with youth or knowledge that provides the ability to perform the responsibilities of this position.
Before the beginning of the third year of coaching must complete a school district approved Coaching Principles training that requires a minimum of five (5) hours of instruction or complete the NFHS Coaches Fundamentals
Course or attend all sessions of the WIAA Coaches School. After training completion coaches will be required to repeat this training every three (3) years.
Annually complete the WIAA general rules clinic and the WIAA approved rule clinic for the sport being coached
prior to the end of the third week of the sports season.
Possess a valid current First Aid Certification (or willing to obtain) or have completed a School District approved Athletic Training/Sports Medicine course equivalent to the Red Cross First Aid Card training or be enrolled in a First Aid Class.
Possess a valid current CPR Certification or be enrolled in and approved CPR C, it must be renewed every three years.
Have successfully completed Concussion recognition and management with Return to Play protocols and Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness trainings as required by Washington State Law that must be renewed every three (3) years.
No history of child abuse or neglect.
No history of drug or alcohol abuse.
Ability to complete a background check according to Yakama Nation Tribal School requirements.
Required to pass a pre-employment background check.
Required to pass a pre-employment drug test.
Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's License with the ability to obtain a Yakama Nation Driving permit. May be required to complete the Defensive Driving Course (to be updated every 2 years).
Preferred Requirements:
Prefer community college and/or vocational school degree or higher with study in job related area.
Enrolled Yakama Preference, but all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply.
