Qualifications Has the ability to organize and supervise a total sports program. Has previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport (major sports). Has substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport and continually examines new theories and procedures. Serves as an appropriate role model for student athletes through instructions and actions. Job Goal To instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for individual and team success while demonstrating behaviors that promote socially acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment. General Recognizes the impact of athletic programs on community image and manages public exposure responsibly. Handles extended time, risk injury factors, and due process considerations. Exercise common sense and good judgment in unspecified situations. Duties and Responsibilities Thoroughly knows all athletic policies approved by the Board of Education and implements them. Applies system, state, and league regulations consistently and interprets them for staff. Understands administrative command and routes requests through proper channels. Attends required public, staff, and departmental meetings. Staff Responsibilities Establish fundamental philosophy, skills, and techniques for staff instruction. Design conferences, clinics, and meetings to ensure staff awareness. Train and encourage professional growth through clinic attendance. Delegate duties, supervise implementation, analyze effectiveness, and evaluate assistants. Maintain discipline, manage grievances, and promote morale. Perform additional duties as assigned by the athletic director or principal. Administrative Duties Assist the athletic director in scheduling, transportation, and tournament requirements. Prepare for scheduled events and adhere to facility times. Coordinate with maintenance and school employees. Provide documentation for state and system requirements (physical examinations, parental consent, eligibility). Safeguard equipment and maintain proper organization. Advise on policy or procedural changes. Student Responsibilities Mentor athletes in developing trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. Monitor athlete grades and conduct. Provide guidance and safety during practices, games, and travel. Explain training rules and sport regulations to participants. Implement injury, medical, and emergency protocols. Complete injury paperwork within 24 hours. Direct student managers, assistants, and statisticians. Enforce discipline, due process, and engage parents when necessary. Assist athletes with college or advanced education selection. Finance & Equipment Participate in budgeting with the athletic director. Recommend equipment specifications. Operate within budgetary appropriations. Account for all equipment and recover losses. Manage inventory and maintenance of equipment. Mark and identify equipment properly. Monitor equipment rooms and authorize access. Control athlete access to authorized areas. Ensure cleanliness of locker rooms and equipment. Secure doors, lights, windows, and locks. Instill respect for equipment and property. Public Relations Organize parents, coaches, players, and guests for preseason meetings. Promote the sport within and outside the school through recruiting and media outreach. Ensure quality of any media releases. Maintain positive relations with media, booster club, parents, officials, volunteers, and fans.
