Direct Support Professional – Wed–Sat Back End Day PM – Entry Level Location: Yonkers, NY, US • Full Time Salary: $18.35 to $27.91 Hourly Overview The Direct Care Youth Worker is responsible for maintaining a safe, predictable and therapeutic living environment for children in care at Andrus, while supporting the agency’s mission, vision, core values and treatment philosophy. The role provides close supervision, counseling and support to children during cottage-based activities. The Direct Support Professional plans and implements individual and group initiatives to build children’s skills and self-esteem, ensures basic needs are met, and maintains a safe, orderly, therapeutic, structured and clean cottage. The role works as part of a multidisciplinary team including recreation therapists, teachers, social workers and other professionals. Responsibilities Assure the safety of each resident and the cottage community. Actively supervise residents at all times, based on age and level, to ensure safety. Supervise residents by participating with them in scheduled activities. Enact the program schedule as written and on time. Use all aspects of Sanctuary in the care provided. Apply trauma-sensitive care in services provided. Utilize all techniques of TCI to prevent triggering, intervene early to prevent escalation to crisis, and manage any crisis safely; develop LSIs and conflict resolutions for minor conflicts to minimize larger conflicts. Ensure Safety Plans and ICMPs are in place, available to staff and actively used to guide treatment. Understand the importance of teamwork and good communication. Plan and enact smooth transitions between activities. Arrive consistently and on time for assigned shifts; maintain professional presentation and responsibility for tasks.
