Senior Production Underwriter - Excess/Umbrella

Excess Liability UnderwriterOur client's Excess Liability Division provides large-limit liability solutions designed to protect corporate assets from catastrophic loss. The Division offers large-limit capacity for both Lead Umbrella and Excess Liability placements, serving a diverse portfolio of industries and businesses.We are seeking an experienced underwriter to join the client's Excess Liability team. This role focuses on underwriting Lead Umbrella and Excess Liability accounts across manufacturing, contracting, retail services, and distribution. The position supports a nationwide producer base and targets Middle Market through National commercial accounts, balancing disciplined underwriting with strong production and relationship management.The hiring company's culture is built on connection, shared learning, and strong relationships. To support this, employees in this role are expected to be on-site four days a week, with the flexibility to work one day remotely.Essential Job Functions and ResponsibilitiesUnderwriting & Risk ManagementLead the underwriting of new and renewal Excess and Umbrella business in alignment with the client's guidelines, risk appetite, and profitability goals.Analyze complex risk exposures to determine appropriate coverage, pricing, structure, and terms.Evaluate and manage complex renewals, endorsements, and policy modifications, identifying opportunities for coverage enhancements and risk mitigation.Procure and assess supplemental underwriting information, including loss histories, Safer-SMS reports, external inspections, and other third-party data.Ensure accurate documentation of underwriting decisions and compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations.Relationship Management & CollaborationBuild and maintain strong partnerships with agents, brokers, claims, and the client's internal stakeholders to support informed underwriting decisions and long-term account success.Clearly communicate underwriting strategies, decisions, and risk considerations to internal teams and external partners.Maintain strong business relationships focused on generating new business while retaining profitable accounts.Production & Marketing LeadershipActively promote and explain Excess and Umbrella products and services to drive profitable growth.Lead and participate in marketing initiatives, including broker and agent meetings, presentations, and industry events.Analyze market conditions, competitive trends, and regulatory developments to identify strategic opportunities and recommend product or marketing enhancements.Evaluate underwriting and marketing practices and implement strategic adjustments to improve outcomes and effectiveness.Performs other duties as assigned.Job RequirementsBachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.Generally, 6-10 years of casualty experience in Underwriting.Prior Excess Liability and Commercial Umbrella underwriting experience. Progress toward or completion of a professional insurance designation preferred.Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills with the ability to effectively market products and services.Willingness to travel, including overnight travel (more than 10% and less than 50%), to visit agents.
