Substitute School Nurse

Promote positive health and prevention of disease and injury in the school setting; assume authority for the care of a student or staff member who has suffered injury or sudden illness until the parent, physician, or ambulance attendants assume responsibility.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Nurse Preparation
• Current Registered Nurse Licensure in State of Illinois
• Current First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation program completion
• Experience in nursing and completion of a school health orientation program
• Illinois Certification as a Vision and Hearing Screening technician (preferred)

Essential Performance Responsibilities:

• Provides direct professional nursing services, first aid, illness, and emergency care to students and staff
• Maintains accurate medical record to assure compliance with state mandates
• Administers medication with appropriate documentation
• Performs mandated screening procedures including vision and hearing
• Makes appropriate assessment and referrals for suspected abuse/neglect as a mandated reporter
• Maintains communication with the Certified School Nurse, teachers, other school personnel, and parents/guardians
• Completes accident/incident reports and insurance claim forms when appropriate
• Compiles data for statistical purposes
• Maintains confidentiality regarding all school and health-related issues
• Develops and maintains health care plans for students who require accommodations
• Reports communicable diseases to the Lake County Health Department when appropriate

• Manual Dexterity: Work requires definite skilled and accurate physical operations requiring some closely coordinated performance

Terms of Employment: 180 days; Monday thru Friday

Salary Range: $205 per day
