Controller (Law Firm)

Overview We are seeking an experienced Controller to lead a 30-person finance team within a law firm environment. This role oversees billing, collections, accounts payable, payroll, and accounting operations, while directly managing six team leads. The Controller will ensure accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and efficient processes across the firm. Responsibilities Lead day-to-day accounting operations, including billing, collections, accounts payable, payroll, and cash management Supervise and develop six direct reports and support a high-performing finance team Oversee month-end and year-end close, financial statements, and general ledger accuracy Partner with leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis Enhance systems, reporting, and internal controls Manage audits and ensure compliance with legal, tax, and partnership requirements Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance 10+ years of accounting experience within a law firm (required) Strong knowledge of law firm partnerships, tax, and financial compliance Prior management experience (supervising direct reports) Advanced Excel skills Preferred CPA license Experience with Elite 3E, Aderant, or similar legal accounting systems All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, national origin, age, ancestry, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, marital status, disability, medical condition, genetic information, pregnancy, or military or veteran status.
