Surgical Technologist

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 WORK SHIFT: Monday‑Friday 10:30a‑7:00p. Friday shift time may flex due to volume. No call, no weekends, no holidays. JOB SUMMARY Under direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Surgical Technologist/LPN performs procedures within their scope of practice, which render the safest and most effective service to the patient and surgeon. The Surgical Technologist anticipates the needs of the surgical team, proficiently handling and passing instruments, sutures, sponges and all other necessary sterile equipment as required. MINIUMUM QUALIFICATIONS Graduate of an accredited school of Surgical Technology. At least 1‑year surgical tech experience in an Operating room with orthopedic specialty experience preferred. Surgical Technology certification preferred. Good communication and decision‑making skills. Current BLS certification through any International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) provided courses such as but not limited to: Ochsner Health System, American Heart Association, and American Red Cross. The ILCOR course must include a manikin check off. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Must possess good physical health. Some requirements include but are not limited to standing, sitting or walking for long periods of time. Lifting at least 50 pounds is required. Must be able to work with a moderate level of noise. Physical Effort required: Constant (67%-100%) – reaching, handling/feeling, talking, hearing, seeing Frequently (34%-66%) – lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, stooping, crouching Occasionally (1%-33%) – climbing (stairs, ladders, etc), crawling EMPLOYMENT Each St. Tammany Health System staff member is expected to conduct himself or herself according to our mission, vision and values.
