Position Overview The Assistant Controller, Aggregates is responsible for supporting the financial management, accounting operations, internal controls, and business performance of the Aggregates group. This position partners closely with the Aggregates Controller, operational leaders, finance teams, and other business partners to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, strong financial controls, and actionable analysis that supports business decisions. The Assistant Controller provides hands‑on leadership for month‑end close, general accounting, inventory and cost accounting, financial planning and analysis, audit support, and process improvement. The role also supports the development of accounting team members and helps ensure consistent execution of finance processes across aggregates locations. Key Responsibilities Financial Reporting and Close Management Support the Aggregates Controller in overseeing monthly, quarterly, and year‑end financial close activities. Ensure financial results are complete, accurate, appropriately supported, and reported within established timelines. Review journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, allocations, reserves, and general ledger activity. Analyze financial statements and operating results to identify unusual trends, variances, risks, and opportunities. Coordinate with Record to Report and shared‑service teams to resolve accounting issues and support timely completion of close activities. Ensure accounting transactions are recorded in accordance with company policies, applicable accounting standards, and established controls. Prepare and review recurring and ad hoc financial reports for finance and operational leadership. Assist with the preparation of management reporting packages and clearly communicate significant financial results and business drivers. Aggregates Accounting and Operational Support Provide financial oversight and accounting support for aggregates operations, including quarries, plants, reserves, inventory, production, sales, and distribution activities. Partner with operational leadership to understand production volumes, sales activity, pricing, product mix, inventory movement, and operating costs. Oversee inventory accounting and related controls, including physical inventory processes, product costing, adjustments, and reconciliation of inventory records. Review operating costs and performance indicators related to labor, equipment, maintenance, energy, outside services, transportation, and other significant cost categories. Support accounting for fixed assets, capital expenditures, depreciation, asset transfers, retirements, and construction‑in‑progress activity. Assist with financial evaluations of capital projects and monitor actual spending against approved capital plans. Support accounting and analysis associated with acquisitions, integrations, reorganizations, and other business changes affecting the Aggregates group. Help translate operational activity into meaningful financial insights that support improved performance and profitability. Internal Controls, Compliance, and Audit Support Maintain a strong internal control environment across Aggregates accounting processes. Monitor adherence to company policies, accounting procedures, delegation‑of‑authority requirements, and applicable governance standards. Review key reconciliations, documentation, and control activities to identify and address potential risks. Support internal and external audits by coordinating information requests, preparing supporting documentation, and facilitating timely resolution of findings. Assist with the development and implementation of corrective actions related to control deficiencies or audit observations. Promote consistent accounting practices and appropriate segregation of duties across locations and processes. Maintain complete and accurate records that support financial reporting, operational decision‑making, and audit requirements. Partner with tax, legal, compliance, internal audit, and other functional teams as necessary. Performance Management and Business Partnership Monitor financial and operational performance against budgets, forecasts, prior periods, and established targets. Perform root cause analysis for significant or recurring variances and partner with business leaders to develop appropriate corrective actions. Support annual budgeting, forecasting, long‑range planning, and periodic outlook processes. Develop clear analysis and recommendations to assist leaders in making informed business decisions. Partner with commercial and operational teams to evaluate pricing, volume, product mix, margin performance, cost trends, and profitability. Provide financial support for productivity, cost‑reduction, working‑capital, and performance‑improvement initiatives. Serve as a trusted finance partner to Aggregates leadership by providing timely information, constructive challenge, and practical solutions. Escalate significant financial, accounting, control, or compliance concerns to the Aggregates Controller and appropriate leadership. Team Leadership and Development Lead, coach, and develop accounting and finance team members to achieve individual, team, and business objectives. Establish clear responsibilities, goals, and performance expectations. Conduct regular one‑on‑one discussions to review priorities, provide feedback, support development, and address performance or resource needs. Delegate responsibilities appropriately while maintaining accountability for quality and timely delivery. Build a collaborative, results‑oriented team culture focused on accuracy, responsiveness, customer service, and continuous improvement. Identify development opportunities that strengthen technical accounting, analytical, business partnership, and leadership capabilities. Support talent planning, succession planning, workforce planning, and recruitment activities for the Aggregates finance organization. Promote effective collaboration among accounting, finance, operations, commercial, and shared‑service teams. Serve as a resource and subject matter expert for complex accounting and financial matters. Qualifications Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. Progressive accounting or finance experience, including experience with financial reporting, general ledger accounting, month‑end close, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls. Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and financial reporting requirements. Experience reviewing financial results and translating data into actionable business insights. Demonstrated ability to partner effectively with operational and functional leaders. Experience leading employees, projects, or cross‑functional initiatives. Strong analytical, organizational, problem‑solving, and communication skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced, geographically dispersed organization. Proficiency with enterprise resource planning systems, financial reporting applications, and Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel. Preferred Qualifications Certified Public Accountant, Certified Management Accountant, or similar professional designation. Experience in aggregates, construction materials, manufacturing, mining, heavy industrial operations, or a related industry. Experience with inventory accounting, standard or operational costing, fixed assets, and capital expenditure processes. Experience supporting multiple operating locations or a decentralized business. Experience with finance transformation, shared‑service environments, system implementations, or process automation. Experience supporting mergers, acquisitions, or business integrations. Travel and Work Environment Periodic travel to aggregates operations, regional offices, and other company locations may be required. The employee may occasionally enter quarry, plant, shop, or other operational environments and must comply with all applicable safety requirements.
