Registered Nurse - ER

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse for our Emergency Department. The shift is from 1 PM to 1 AM, working a 5/2 schedule every Wednesday and Thursday. This position features a fast-paced environment with a 19-bed ED and 6 Fast Track beds, serving a diverse patient population spanning newborns to geriatrics.

Responsibilities include:

• Managing all ED patient types including MS, respiratory distress, diabetics, GI bleeds, COPD, stroke (NIHSS), cardiac emergencies (CHF, dysrhythmias), minor traumas, mental health, IVDA, and ETOH cases.
• Providing direct patient care with RN-to-patient ratios of 1:3-4.
• Performing critical thinking, IV starts, medication administration, dosage calculations, and basic nursing skills.
• Passing an EKG competency exam prior to arrival.
• Collaborating with hospital staff including charge nurses, phlebotomy, IV team, RT, hospitalist, and ER educators.

Certifications Required:

• BLS
• ACLS
• PALS
• CPI or MOAB
• NIHSS

Skills & Experience:

• Minimum of 1 year ED experience (first-time travelers must have 2 years of perm staff RN experience in acute care and be separated for 1 year).
• Proficiency in critical thinking, IV placement, medication administration, and basic nursing skills.
• Ability to work independently and demonstrate self-motivation.

Support & Equipment:

• EMR: Meditech Expanse
• IV Pumps: Alaris
• Medication Dispensing: Pyxis
• Support from resource nurses, RTs, hospitalists, and ER educators.
• No floating required for ED staff.

Orientation & Schedule:

• 2 days general hospital orientation, 2 days on the unit (at least one during day shift).
• 8-week schedule; work 4 days one week and 3 days the next, with rotations including 3/2 or 5/2.
• Start times: 7 AM, 9 AM, 11 AM, 12 PM, or 1 PM.
• Every other weekend rotation.
• Will work 2 of 3 holidays.
• No on-call.
• Up to 7 days of time off per contract, with requests approved accordingly.
