Remote, with occasional travel to the Sussex County, New Jersey office.

Our client is an insurance consulting and third party administration firm based in Sussex County, New Jersey. They administer claims for joint insurance funds, self-insured employers, private companies, and captive and deductible programs across New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and New York.

Alongside claims administration, they handle insurance placement, medical cost containment, excess and reinsurance placement, and loss control. They are a small, stable shop where adjusters stay for a long time.

Compensation: $70,000 to $80,000

Job Location: Remote. You will need to be close enough to reach the Sussex County, New Jersey office when the work calls for it.

Role Summary

You will carry a caseload of liability claims from first notice through resolution. That means investigating the loss event, determining coverage and liability, setting the action plan, negotiating, and closing the file.

You will direct defense counsel on litigated matters, track case progress, and pursue subrogation wherever there is third-party money to recover. On claims involving an injured worker, you will coordinate return to work with the employer and the treating physician.

You will also be the point of contact for the brokers, attorneys, and fund clients tied to your files, so clear and frequent communication matters as much as technical claims handling. This position is open because a long-tenured adjuster is retiring, so you will step into an established caseload rather than build one from nothing. You will work independently with supervisory oversight and present your files at regular claim reviews.

Responsibilities

- Investigate loss events and determine coverage and liability

- Manage claims through action plans you build and carry out

- Evaluate exposure, negotiate, and resolve claims within your authority

- Identify and pursue subrogation to recover third-party funds

- Direct defense counsel on litigated files and monitor case progress

- Document claim activity accurately and present files at claim reviews

Qualifications

- 1 to 3 years handling property damage or bodily injury liability claims

- Active adjuster license (required at hire)

- Working knowledge of coverage analysis, reserving, and settlement negotiation

- Experience coordinating with defense attorneys on litigated files

- Clear written and verbal communication with attorneys, brokers, and clients

- Comfortable working independently with supervisory oversight
