About This Role
The preschool teacher is a member of the teaching team who shares the responsibility with the teaching team for the care and education of the preschool group of children. Their job is to plan curriculum, supervise groups of children, build family relationships and maintains a healthy and safe environment for the group of children.
What You'll Do- To plan and implement a whole child, individualized, emergent curriculum
- Assist in designing room arrangement to meet the needs of the classroom and curriculum goals
- Implement a balance of child-led and teacher-led play-based activities with the goals and objectives set forth by the respective curriculum and the New Hampshire Early Learning Standards
- Implement a balance of quiet and active learning activities with the goals and objectives set forth by the New Hampshire Early Learning Standards and the New Hampshire Kindergarten Readiness Indicators
- Assist children in achieving their developmental goals
a. Model social skills
b. Develop positive self-esteem
c. Provide experiences that encompass the culture of the community and families
d. Use positive guidance techniques
e. Promote language and literacy development
f. Promote creative and expressive abilities
g. Promote mathematical development
h. Promote inquiry and observations
i. Encourage self-help skills and independence at the developmental level of each child
j. Use materials both indoors and outdoors to promote physical development
To maintain a safe and healthy environment
- Perform daily checks of the indoor and outdoor classrooms to make sure they are safe for all of those using them
- Promote and model healthy eating practices
- Maintain an orderly learning environment
- Model and promote positive interactions between peers
To establish relationships with families
- Encourage parents to come into our program at any time of day or year
- Relate child specific information daily
- Offer support and conferences to relay assessment information and to address parent concerns
- Maintain SeeSaw folder for each child
To ensure a well-run classroom
- Assess supplies and materials needed before each week of activities and provide Director with a list one week prior
- Plan a specified amount of weekly activities to be added to the weekly curriculum
- Assist in changing over materials in the classroom monthly
- Implement smooth transitions and consistent routines
To maintain professionalism
- Attend at least 18 hours of professional development trainings
- Promote the school’s philosophy and educational goals
- Attend monthly board meetings and staff meetings
- Adhere to NAEYC’s Code of Ethical Conduct
- Maintain positive relationships with co-workers
- Follow the school’s dress code
- Adhere to the State of New Hampshire’s Child Care Licensing
- Maintain Infant/Child CPR and First Aid Certification
- Complete NH Childcare Licensing Orientation
- Adhere to scheduled work hours
- Follow time off policy
- Maintain EAVP confidentiality policy
- Adhere to EAVP by-laws
- 14. Attend Open House, curriculum nights/activities and some fundraising*
- At least 18 years of age
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Early Childhood Education, Education, Special Education or equivalent college credits, or experience working in a licensed child care center or school
- Complete fingerprinting and background check
- Complete first aide and CPR training
- 9 Early childhood credits, at least 3 in Child, Growth & Development
- 1000 hours working experience in a licensed child care setting
- CPR certified
