Job Purpose:

The Winter Race Staff Lead assists the Alpine Ski Racing Manager in overseeing Adult Race League operations, managing race logistics, supervising staff, and ensuring a safe, positive experience for race participants. This role includes setting up and maintaining the racecourse, timing participants, and curating a high-quality guest experience. The Winter Race Staff Lead embodies the company’s core values by fostering a welcoming, customer-focused environment that prioritizes safety, efficiency, and professionalism.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Honor Commitments:

• Oversee logistics for the Adult Race League and other race events, ensuring accurate timing, proper race setup, and smooth course operations.
• Assist in setting gates, preparing start lists, timing races, and efficiently managing setup and takedown.
• Communicate race responsibilities clearly to staff, volunteers, and participants, ensuring adherence to event schedules and quality standards.
• Protect the safety of self, co-workers, and Marquette Mountain Resort guests by strictly following safety policies and procedures.

Create Positive Experiences:

• Actively engage with race participants to create a friendly, welcoming atmosphere, answering questions, and guiding participants through race processes.
• Provide clear instructions and support to employees and volunteers, fostering a collaborative, customer-focused environment.
• Maintain a positive attitude and professional demeanor in all interactions, contributing to an enjoyable guest experience.
• Report any equipment issues or unsafe conditions to supervisors immediately, prioritizing a safe environment.
• Operate all equipment safely, avoiding injury to self or others, and follow driving guidelines per company policy.

Foster Lifelong Learning:

• Participate in safety and team meetings, learning new race management techniques and safety protocols.
• Educate race participants about race flow and safety guidelines, enhancing their experience and knowledge of the sport.
• Encourage skill development among staff, offering guidance and hands-on learning opportunities.

Exhibit Pioneering Spirit:

• Contribute innovative ideas to enhance the efficiency and enjoyment of race events, supporting the continual improvement of race operations.
• Proactively address issues on the racecourse, adapting to changing conditions and participant needs.
• Support the Alpine Ski Racing Manager in implementing best practices for racecourse management, timing, and participant engagement.

Demonstrate Good Stewardship:

• Ensure equipment is properly maintained, set up, and stored after each event, supporting the longevity and readiness of all race materials.
• Monitor and maintain safety protocols throughout the racecourse, protecting the well-being of guests and team members.
• Report any damaged or unsafe equipment immediately and collaborate with other departments to maintain a safe race environment.

• Adapt to the evolving needs of the organization and undertake additional responsibilities as required, reflecting our commitment to flexibility and responsiveness in meeting business objectives.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma and 18 years of age
• Experience in event planning or race management, preferably in Alpine skiing or a related sport.
• Passionate about winter sports, the outdoors or hospitality.
• Ability to lead staff.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with employees, volunteers, participants, and stakeholders.
• Knowledge of Alpine and Nordic skiing rules, regulations, and best practices.
• Ability to operate computers, public announcement systems, 2-way radios, timing equipment.
• Excellent organizational abilities, including effective planning and scheduling.
• Ability to perform manual labor in various weather conditions.
• Valid Driver’s License
• Must be able to work nights, weekends and holidays as needed by season and by need of the business.

• Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision requirements of this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
• Communication requirements include the use of two-way radios and mobile phones while on duty.
• The employee must be able to hear radio communications and respond to them as well as communicate (hear and speak) with staff, guests, and racers while on duty.
• The employee is required to hand rake and use shovels frequently.
• The employee must be able to navigate aerial chair lifts safely.
• The employee must be able to ski or board at an intermediate level.
