Elementary Special Education Resource Teacher

The Elementary Special Education Teacher provides high-quality, individualized instruction and support to students with disabilities in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). The teacher works collaboratively with general education teachers, families, related service providers, administrators, and other school personnel to create an inclusive, supportive learning environment in which all students can grow academically, socially, and emotionally.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution.
• Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with an appropriate special education endorsement (SM, SA, or SV).
• Knowledge of special education laws, regulations, procedures, and best practices.
• Knowledge of effective instructional practices, including co-teaching, differentiation, accommodations, and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS).
• Strong communication, collaboration, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, colleagues, and support staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide direct, supplemental, and specially designed instruction based on individual student needs and IEP goals.
• Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned instruction using research-based practices and a variety of instructional strategies, materials, resources, and technology.
• Apply effective co-teaching, differentiation, accommodation, modification, and PBIS practices to support student success in the least restrictive environment.
• Determine students' instructional needs using assessment data, IEP goals, progress-monitoring data, and district curriculum expectations.
• Adapt and accommodate curriculum and instruction to provide students with meaningful access to grade-level learning.
• Create individual and group learning experiences that support students' academic, social-emotional, behavioral, and physical development.
• Establish and maintain a safe, structured, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that maximizes student engagement and achievement.
• Implement effective classroom and behavior-management strategies that promote positive student behavior and engagement.
• Develop, implement, monitor, and update IEPs in compliance with state and federal requirements.
• Establish measurable annual goals based on student needs and regularly monitor and document progress toward those goals.
• Conduct and participate in assessments and diagnostic evaluations related to special education eligibility and services, seeking assistance from district specialists as appropriate.
• Evaluate students' present levels of academic achievement and functional performance using multiple sources of data.
• Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential records related to student achievement, attendance, assessments, services, and IEP implementation.
• Use assessment and progress-monitoring data to adjust instruction, interventions, accommodations, and supports as needed.
• Collaborate with general education teachers to plan instruction, implement accommodations and modifications, and support students in accessing the general education curriculum.
• Serve as an active member of Multidisciplinary Evaluation Teams (METs), IEP teams, and other student-support teams.
• Facilitate and participate in IEP meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and other meetings related to student progress and programming.
• Maintain regular, professional communication with parents and guardians regarding student goals, progress, strengths, and areas of need.
• Coordinate with teachers, administrators, paraprofessionals, related service providers, and other school personnel to ensure consistent implementation of student supports and services.
• Communicate clear learning and behavioral expectations to students and provide ongoing feedback regarding their progress.
• Demonstrate strong knowledge of assigned content areas, special education practices, instructional strategies, and available resources.
• Maintain a high standard of professional practice and ensure instruction and student programming align with district expectations and applicable state and federal requirements.
• Participate in professional learning, staff meetings, and collaborative planning opportunities.
• Maintain student confidentiality and adhere to all district policies and professional standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal, special education coordinator, or designee.

• The employee must occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds of supplies, which requires bending, stooping, and lifting.
• The employee must be able to use a variety of instructional materials in the classroom.
• The employee must use their hands and arms to manipulate objects.
• The employee must use keyboards, tools, and other controls.
• The employee must sit and stand for long periods of time.
• The employee must have normal vision and hearing, with or without corrective aids.
• The employee must be able to move about the assigned location unaided during the day.

Salary: Commensurate with CFT Salary Schedule and experience
