Assistant Professor OF Nursing

The Assistant Professor is a full-time, 9-month faculty position. Assistant Professors will teach undergraduate and graduate students within the Department of Nursing as assigned by the Chairperson of the Department of Nursing. This is a tenure-track position; therefore, the applicant may be tenure-eligible. Essential Functions Teach assigned pedagogy, theory and/or clinical courses Participate in curriculum and assessment development. Participate in syllabi development and or revision. Participate on University/ Department /Professional committees. Engage in grant writing and scholarly activity. Demonstrate and maintain professional competence and knowledge of subject matter Meet each class as scheduled. Maintain congruency with course descriptions, syllabus, and the University Catalog. Maintain office hours to counsel and advise students. Within a reasonable time provide students with evaluations of their academic and/or clinical performance. 1Participate in curriculum and/or assessment development per accreditation regulatory requirements Participate in other assigned duties needed for the operation of the Department. Coordinate Didactic approved courses(s). Participate in Community outreach. Research within the area of clinical expertise (beyond thesis and dissertation) Other related duties and activities Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Medical-Surgical nursing with significant clinical experience in acute care practice. Must be able to teach across the nursing curriculum. Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of students within a university setting. Strong ability to communicate both orally and in writing. Demonstrate the ability to work as a team to create innovative educational experiences and provide an environment where students are partners in learning. Education: Master’s degree in nursing - surgical nursing certification required; a doctorate in nursing preferred. Required for Associates. Required experience: 3 to 5 years of clinical nursing experience in medical-surgical nursing acute care setting. Other preferences: Clinical experiences in community health and or community outreach initiatives Experience with classroom presentations The criteria for evaluation in this position include, but are not limited to the following: Successful completion of all activities cited above as essential functions Grant and publication success.
