Epileptologist - Join Our Neurology Team

Position Overview

We are looking for a board-certified or board-eligible Epileptologist to become a part of our Neurology practice. The successful candidate will deliver specialized and comprehensive care to adult patients dealing with epilepsy and seizure disorders in an outpatient environment. This role also presents opportunities to aid in the development and expansion of our comprehensive epilepsy program.

The Epileptologist will assess and manage patients experiencing a wide variety of seizure disorders, including new-onset seizures, drug-resistant epilepsy, various epilepsy syndromes, and cases where there is uncertainty in diagnosing between epileptic and non-epileptic events. Collaboration with Neurology, Neurosurgery, Neurointerventional Surgery, EEG services, and other multidisciplinary teams will be essential to ensure high-quality, evidence-based care for epilepsy.

This role is primarily outpatient-focused, with chances to engage in the enhancement of epilepsy diagnostics, treatment pathways, EEG utilization, and multidisciplinary epilepsy services.

Clinical Responsibilities

• Thorough evaluation and management of epilepsy and seizure disorders
• Assessment of new-onset seizures
• Management of drug-resistant or refractory epilepsy
• Diagnosis and management of epilepsy syndromes
• Classification of seizures and optimization of treatment
• Differentiation between epileptic and non-epileptic events
• Medication management and optimization of antiseizure medications
• Care for epilepsy during pregnancy and in other special populations
• Interpretation of EEG results and clinical correlation
• Ambulatory EEG and prolonged EEG monitoring
• Interpretation of long-term video EEG monitoring
• Evaluation for epilepsy surgery when appropriate
• Conducting pre-surgical evaluations and multidisciplinary case reviews
• Management of status epilepticus and complex seizure presentations in partnership with inpatient Neurology
• Educating patients and families on seizure safety, driving restrictions, and self-management of epilepsy

• Development of referral pathways for patients with medically refractory epilepsy
• Collaboration with Neurosurgery for patients considered for epilepsy surgery
• Partnership with Neurointerventional Surgery and other Neurosciences services as clinically indicated
• Initiatives focused on quality and outcomes related to epilepsy care
• Education for residents, advanced practice clinicians, nursing staff, EEG technologists, and other healthcare professionals as needed

Qualifications

• Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution
• Completion of an accredited Neurology residency program
• Completion of an accredited fellowship in Epilepsy/Clinical Neurophysiology
• Board certification or eligibility in Neurology
• Board certification or eligibility in Clinical Neurophysiology and/or Epilepsy, as applicable
• Valid medical license or the ability to obtain licensure in Delaware
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Dedication to providing high-quality, patient-centered neurological care
• Proven interest in the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy and seizure disorders

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience or interest in developing epilepsy programs
• Interest in clinical education and/or quality improvement initiatives

Work Schedule

• Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
• Focus on outpatient practice
• No routine hospital rounding or overnight call unless specified
• Part-time opportunities may be available
• Possibility for additional clinical responsibilities based on physician interests and program needs
