CUSTODIAL SUPERINTENDENT - UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH FLORIDA - TAMPA, FL Working as Unit Director, you will be responsible for the overall cleanliness, sanitation, and security of the assigned buildings. You will coordinate all work activities of janitorial personnel, supervise, direct, and develop supervisors and hourly employees in accordance with company guidelines, and ensure customer satisfaction through high-quality standards while maintaining a safe and equitable environment. In the Unit Director role you will assign duties, inspect work, and investigate complaints regarding janitorial services and take immediate corrective action. You will secure equipment, maintain it in working order, and keep buildings supplied with janitorial materials through periodic inventories. You will train, discipline, and recommend dismissals of employees. Unit Directors act as liaison between building occupants or administrators and supervisors, effectively communicating all directives from managers, building occupants, and administrators to janitorial staff. Key Responsibilities Communicate between shifts to ensure completion of tasks. Train workers in janitorial methods, procedures, and proper equipment operation. Issue supplies and equipment to ensure quality and timely service delivery. Perform daily inspections and follow through on assignments to ensure task completion. Cross-train and develop personnel for multiple positions. Hold weekly staff reports and inspections. Meet with staff weekly to review task completion and plan future projects. Secure building after work completion. Guide project completion to ensure timely, on-budget results. Report budgetary issues. Preferred Qualifications 1–2 years as supervisor in housekeeping or a service-related field with high customer/client contact. Strong work ethic, intense drive, and initiative for quality and customer service. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Excellent problem‑solving skills in one‑on‑one and group situations. Ability to engage and motivate staff. Understanding of budgeting processes and awareness of profit and loss concepts. Excellent administrative and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize. Ability to work with heavy cleaning equipment.
