Personal Care Assistant

Position Summary


The Personal Care Assistant (PCA) provides direct support to students with disabilities in an educational setting. This role helps students safely participate in classroom activities while supporting their personal, behavioral, social, and academic needs. The PCA works under the direction of teachers and other educational professionals to promote student success, independence, and inclusion.

Full-time, Monday through Friday
Schedule: 8:15 AM - 4:15 PM
Elementary and High School age populations

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide one-on-one or small group support to students throughout the school day, including classroom activities, transitions, lunch, recess, and transportation.
  • Assist students in remaining engaged, focused, and on task during instructional activities.
  • Support the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and behavior support plans as directed by school staff.
  • Monitor, document, and report student progress, behaviors, and significant incidents.
  • Encourage independence, social development, and positive peer interactions through modeling and reinforcement strategies.
  • Assist with activities of daily living, which may include toileting, feeding, dressing, hygiene, mobility, and personal care needs.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other support staff to provide consistent student support.
  • Participate in required meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with all applicable policies and procedures.
  • Respond appropriately to behavioral, medical, or safety-related situations following established protocols.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Experience working with children or adults with developmental, behavioral, or special needs.
  • Ability to provide personal care assistance, including toileting and mobility support.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to remain patient, professional, and adaptable in a fast-paced environment.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in special education, behavioral health, direct support, residential programs, group homes, intermediate units (IUs), or related settings.
  • Postsecondary coursework in education, psychology, human services, or a related field.
  • Experience supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and/or challenging behaviors.
