Pay Rate: $34.00 per hour. Paid weekly.
Shift Details: Overnight Long Haul Route - Sleeper Unit. Rotating rolling lanes to transfer stations. Weekends included. Average miles per week. Will drive in various weather conditions. Lanes include: Rapid City, Garden City, Grand Junction, and some Kansas City.

I. Job Summary
Responsible for transporting waste from a WMHS location or customer location to another WMHS transfer location or processing location. All Company assigned vehicles are equipped with camera telematics which include inside and outside cameras. In addition, all vehicles are equipped with ELD (electronic logging device), GPS (global positioning system), and sleeper berth.

II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Manages assigned routes ensuring that waste is transported in a safe, timely, and accurate manner.
• Responsible for picking up and transporting waste safely according to all federal, state, and local rules and regulations.
• Follows routing software route schedule.
• Plans daily/weekly schedule based on WMHS or customer needs by reviewing daily paperwork, e.g., manifest, route sheets, previous VCR, etc. provided by Transportation Manager/Supervisor or Dispatcher.
• Routes may be overnight up to 4 nights weekly and allow for sleeping in the sleeper berth of the truck; however, Drivers are authorized to leave the truck when not on duty.
• Communicates any issues to Transportation Manager/Supervisor and/or Dispatcher for resolution.
• Ensures load is secured and placarded if required prior to operating vehicle on public highway.
• Planned drop and hook operation.
• Must be able to push/pull light or heavy objects.
• Must be experienced with mountain driving and ability to use chains as needed due to weather.
• Ensures that assigned paperwork is completed legibly, neatly, accurately, and completely and returned to Transportation Manager/Supervisor or Dispatcher, at the time of debriefing, for processing.
• Communicates with WMHS Transportation Manager/Supervisor and/or Dispatcher regarding any change to pickups. Driver is expected to always provide the highest level of customer service. Report any problems/issues with accounts to the Transportation Manager/Supervisor and/or Dispatcher before the closure of business each day.
• Performs a documented pre-trip inspection on vehicles prior to leaving yard to commence route. Performs a documented post-trip inspection on vehicles prior to being debriefed for end of route. Reports any maintenance problems to Transportation Manager/Supervisor and/or Dispatcher for follow-up. Ensures all defects have been corrected prior to operating the vehicles again. Use of ELD (electronic logging device) and Geotab to log hours per DOT guidelines.
• Attend all required company meetings and adhere to all safety practices and company policies.
• Apply knowledge of commercial driving and skills in maneuvering vehicles at varying speeds in difficult situations, such as heavy traffic, inclement weather or in tight loading dock areas.
• Punctual, regular, and reliable attendance is essential.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities, as assigned.

III. Qualifications
A. Required Qualifications

• 3 years of experience driving tractor-trailer.
• Successfully complete pre-employment screening, including drug screen and DOT physical.
• May require mandatory immunizations and credentialing based on customer requirements.
• Able to read, write, and speak English well enough to interact with the public, understand traffic signs, respond to official questions, and complete records or reports.
• Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) - Class A.
• All CMV/CDL drivers must be able to obtain a medical card from a certified medical examiner.

B. Preferred Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED (accredited).
• 1 year of previous long haul driving including mountain driving experience.

Field: This job operates in both inside garage, shop or gas plant conditions as well as in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity.

This role is designated as safety sensitive and will require the successful candidate to strictly comply with all safety rules and protocols. As part of the ongoing employment requirements, the successful candidate may be subject to drug and alcohol testing— including pre‑employment screening, post‑incident evaluations, reasonable suspicion checks, and random testing—in accordance with government regulations and company policies.

Pay: The expected base pay rate for this office/on-site position is $34.00 per hour. This rate represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific salary offered to a successful candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s relevant experience, education, training, certifications, qualifications, and work location.
