Senior Coding Specialist (Facility Edits and Denials) - REMOTE

Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC), located in Nashville, Tennessee, seeks a professional coder in the Coding-Medicine/OBGYN/Neuro department. The position focuses on reviewing, assigning, and abstracting professional and outpatient facility diagnostic and procedural codes for encounters using designated coding classification systems. Key Responsibilities Develop efficient workflows to organize and prioritize complex coding work, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and hospital targets. Utilize designated coding classification systems and guidelines to ensure accurate code selection, reflecting appropriate resource utilization during patient encounters. Proactively identify documentation gaps or inconsistencies that may impact code assignment; initiate coding queries or tasks to clarify documentation and ensure accurate code assignment. Provide guidance and support to coding staff on complex coding scenarios and regulatory requirements, staying updated on changes in coding regulations and guidelines. Support ongoing training and development of staff. Required Qualifications Certifications: Certified Coding Associate (AHIMA), Certified Coding Specialist (AHIMA), Certified Coding Specialist – Physician (AHIMA), Certified Outpatient Coder (AAPC), Certified Professional Coder – Outpatient (AAPC), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) – AHIMA, Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) – AHIMA. Relevant work experience: 4 years. Education: High School Diploma or GED.
