Tax Manager

Tax Manager/Fractional CFO Opportunity

Our client, a growing CFO consulting firm, is looking to add a Tax Manager/Fractional CFO to the team. As the firm's tax lead, you will handle all tax compliance and strategy for the clients, plus have the opportunity to be involved with clients as their senior financial advisor.

Requirements:

• 5-10 years of professional accounting experience
• Public accounting background strongly preferred; industry experience, such as a controller role, is also considered
• One of these two profiles:
  • Tax-focused: Solid business tax experience and an interest in growing into fractional CFO work
  • Accounting-focused: Strong accounting or controller experience and an interest in building tax expertise
• Proficiency in QuickBooks Online; NetSuite experience is a plus
• Experience with professional tax software
• Excellent communication and client-facing skills, with the confidence to advise business owners and executive teams
• Comfortable with investigative work, such as ledger reviews, prior-year return reviews, and reconciling messy books
• CPA preferred; not required

Responsibilities:

Tax Lead

• Serve as the primary tax expert for all firm clients
• Prepare 30+ business tax returns per year
• Provide ongoing tax advice and planning strategy throughout the year
• Handle state annual report filings (such as Michigan and Delaware) and 1099 filings
• Advise clients on the tax treatment of stock options
• Review prior-year returns and correct issues as needed

Fractional CFO

• Own 2-3 ongoing client relationships as their fractional Chief Financial Officer
• Provide financial oversight, general ledger reviews, and year-end adjustments
• Investigate and clean up books, including reconciling accounts and correcting prior records
• Advise business owners and leadership teams, and build trusted, long-term relationships
• Visit client sites across Southeast Michigan as needed
