Registered Nurse (RN) Operating Room / Circulate, Operating Room, Pre-Op, Post Anesthesia Care Unit Nurse (PACU)

The RN is responsible for providing direct patient care within all scopes of practice in surgical services. Candidates must have experience in all three areas: Pre-op, Operating Room/Circulator, and PACU. The RN will function as a primary caregiver and must be able to perform effectively in all three areas. General working hours are from 6:30 am to 2:30 pm, Monday through Friday, with occasional late days to complete surgical case loads. Rotational surgical call with other circulating staff members averages 1 to 2 days a week and every other weekend or every third weekend, depending on the number of circulators. Responsibilities include conducting assessments, documenting care, providing emotional support, coordinating transfers, recovering patients, circulating cases, assisting with processing instruments and equipment in central sterilization, and preparing patients for surgery. The RN will assist other staff members and provide patient education. Knowledge of and interest in technical procedures and care is essential. Adherence to infection control principles and general departmental policies is required. The RN should follow national standards as set by relevant nursing and surgical associations. Accountability is to the Surgical Services Manager or their designee. The position demands mental resilience to perform effectively in highly stressful situations. Candidates should possess good communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with a variety of individuals. Physical requirements include long periods of standing, walking, and heavy lifting. Exposure to blood and body fluids, as well as unpleasant sights, smells, and potential infectious diseases, is possible.
