Systems Engineer

Position Title: Systems Engineer Level: Level 3 – Senior Location: Herndon, VA Salary: Up to $200,000 per year Core Hours: 9am to 4pm Top Secret (TS/SCI) Clearance with Polygraph required. Job Overview The Technical Automation Specialist will work closely with cross‑functional teams to identify automation opportunities, design, develop, and deploy solutions that increase productivity, reduce costs, and enhance quality across technical infrastructure. Key Responsibilities Develop and implement automation strategies, focusing on productivity, cost reduction, and quality improvement. Design, develop, and deploy automation solutions using scripting (Python, PowerShell, Bash), frameworks (Ansible, SaltStack, Terraform), monitoring (Prometheus, Grafana), logging (Splunk, Elastic Stack), and CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD). Collaborate with technical teams to integrate automation solutions with existing systems, ensuring smooth operation with minimal disruption. Provide technical guidance, best‑practice recommendations, and troubleshooting support for automation initiatives. Monitor and optimize automation workflows, continuously improving performance and efficiency. Maintain comprehensive documentation of design, development, deployment, and operational procedures. Experience and Education Minimum 6 years of professional experience in systems engineering and automation development. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field; Master’s degree preferred. Core Skills Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, PowerShell, Bash). Experience with automation frameworks (Ansible, SaltStack, Puppet). Knowledge of CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, Azure DevOps). Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP). Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes). Understanding of IT service management (ITIL, ServiceNow). Experience with Linux and/or Windows operating systems. Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills. Optional Competencies Relevant certifications: AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, Azure DevOps Engineer, Certified Ansible Engineer. Agile development experience (Scrum, Kanban). Infrastructure as code expertise (Terraform, CloudFormation). Excellent communication, collaboration, and adaptability skills.
