Medical Collections Specialist

We are looking for an experienced Medical Collections Specialist for our Clinical Support Center in Ft. Lauderdale who likes the challenge of a fast-paced environment. Position Summary We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Collections Specialist to join our Revenue Cycle Management team. This position is responsible for following up on outstanding insurance claims, resolving denials and underpayments, and working with payors to ensure timely and accurate reimbursement for services provided. The ideal candidate has experience with healthcare insurance collections and accounts receivable (A/R). Experience with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) billing and collections is highly preferred. Key Responsibilities Work assigned insurance A/R to obtain timely and accurate reimbursement. Follow up with commercial insurance, Medicaid, and managed care payors on unpaid and underpaid claims. Research claim status, denials, rejections, and payment discrepancies. Identify root causes of non-payment and take appropriate action to resolve outstanding balances. Submit corrected claims, reconsiderations, appeals, and supporting documentation as needed. Review Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) and Electronic Remittance Advices (ERAs) to identify payment and denial issues. Investigate authorization, eligibility, credentialing, coding, and billing issues impacting claim payment. Identify contractual underpayments and elevate discrepancies when appropriate. Document all collection activity, payor correspondence, reference numbers, and follow-up actions accurately. Maintain consistent follow-up on high-dollar and aging accounts. Meet established productivity, quality, and collection goals. Identify recurring payor issues and trends and communicate them to Revenue Cycle leadership. Collaborate with Billing, Authorization, Credentialing, Intake, and other departments to resolve claim issues. Maintain compliance with HIPAA and all applicable company policies and procedures. Qualifications 2+ years of healthcare insurance collections, medical billing, or accounts receivable experience preferred. ABA billing and/or collections experience is a strong plus. Experience working insurance A/R and resolving claims aged 60, 90, and 120+ days. Knowledge of commercial insurance and Medicaid claim processing. Experience researching denials, underpayments, authorization issues, and claim payment discrepancies. Familiarity with insurance portals, clearinghouses, EOBs/ERAs, and electronic claim submission. Strong attention to detail and documentation skills. Ability to manage a high-volume account workload and prioritize high-dollar and aging claims. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a Revenue Cycle team. Preferred Experience Experience with any of the following is a plus: Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) revenue cycle ABA CPT codes, including View phone number on click.appcast.io CentralReach or similar practice management/EHR systems Waystar or other healthcare clearinghouses Medicaid and Medicaid Managed Care Commercial behavioral health payors Authorization-related claim denials Appeals and reconsiderations Contractual underpayment identification and recovery What We're Looking For We are looking for someone who is persistent, organized, analytical, and results-driven. The successful candidate will be comfortable researching complex claim issues, communicating directly with insurance companies, maintaining detailed follow-up documentation, and taking ownership of accounts through resolution. Experience specifically collecting ABA or behavioral health claims is highly valued, but candidates with strong healthcare collections experience who can quickly learn ABA-specific billing requirements are encouraged to apply.
