Unit Therapist

Fort Lauderdale Behavioral Health Center is a 182-bed, acute care psychiatric hospital located in the beautiful Oakland Park neighborhood of Fort Lauderdale, FL. FLBHC features individual units for children, adolescents, adults, and seniors, and offers inpatient acute care, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient programs. On average, over 10,000 patients receive care from our compassionate health care team each year at Fort Lauderdale Behavioral Health. The Unit Therapist works with adults to help them overcome psychological/emotional issues as well as substance abuse issues. They will complete psychosocial assessments and formulate treatment plans based on individual needs in addition to conducting a process group daily. The therapist will be able to recognize crisis situations and provide interventions. Ability to work collaboratively with peers, administrators, physicians, and allied staff is a must. Schedule will include weekdays and an alternating weekend day.

Qualifications include a bachelor's degree from an accredited school in social work, mental health counseling, or related field, crisis prevention intervention (CPI) required, two years of experience working in a behavioral health center or psychiatric counseling setting with adults and/or adolescents treating co-occurring, mentally ill, or chemically dependent patients, with an understanding of co-occurring disorders, therapeutic group procedures and dynamics, and cultural linguistic diversity amongst patients. CPR certification is also required. Knowledge and skills include strong therapeutic skills and knowledge of therapeutic philosophies (group and individual treatment skills), working knowledge of developmental stages, some minimal knowledge of community resources, ability to communicate effectively with patients with varied ability to understand, strong assessment skills, and ability to intervene in a variety of situations. Sensitivity and awareness of diverse cultures and their practices are also important.
