Office Float Medical Assistant

Position Title: Office Float Medical Assistant
Department: Clinical & Front Office Operations
Reports To: Practice Manager

Position Summary

We are looking for a versatile team member to provide support in both the clinical and front-office areas of the practice. This position requires flexibility, adaptability, and a positive attitude, as the Float Medical Assistant will assist wherever needed to ensure smooth daily operations. The ideal candidate is highly organized, able to multitask effectively, and thrives in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Responsibilities

Clinical Support

• Assess patients and obtain vital signs.
• Update patient medical histories and medication lists.
• Assist providers with examinations and procedures.
• Prepare exam rooms and maintain clinical supplies.
• Process laboratory specimens and diagnostic orders.
• Complete clinical documentation and follow-up tasks as assigned.
• Respond to patient questions and assist with care coordination.

Front Office Support

• Answer incoming phone calls and route messages appropriately.
• Schedule, reschedule, and confirm patient appointments.
• Verify insurance eligibility and benefits.
• Assist with patient check-in and check-out processes.
• Collect co-pays, balances, and process payments.
• Manage patient portal messages and appointment requests.
• Scan and index documents into the electronic medical record.

Float Responsibilities ( in Office)

• Provide coverage for team members during absences, vacations, and high-volume periods.
• Rotate between clinical and administrative duties based on operational needs.
• Assist with special projects, workflow improvements, and office initiatives.
• Support all departments while maintaining excellent customer service.
• Adapt quickly to changing priorities and staffing needs.
• Cross-train in multiple areas to ensure continuity of operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Medical Assistant certification preferred.
• Minimum of 2 year of medical office experience preferred.
• Experience with electronic medical records (EMR/EHR) systems preferred.
• Strong computer and organizational skills.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
