Public Safety OfficerBe a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine, as a Public Safety Officer at our Orland Park Location. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.Under the general supervision of the Public Safety Supervisor, the Public Safety Officer will work to maintain a secure and safe environment for faculty, staff, patients, visitors and property. Duties will include communication functions of the Public Safety Department, rotation and receipt of all emergency and non-emergency incoming calls to the dispatch center, solicits descriptive information to determine the nature and urgency of the request and the location and scope of the incident.Essential Job FunctionsServe as a mentor and provide support to Public Safety CoordinatorsSupervise shift operationsConduct foot patrols in assigned areas, double tap required tour access points and report identified safety and security related risk/issuesConduct mobile patrols on grounds and parking garages as assignedVerify areas are properly locked and secured when performing patrolsProvide immediate response to unplanned life safety or security related emergencies and drills/exercisesRequest emergency services and/or UCPD assistance when necessaryManage two-way communications and resources during daily operations and emergency responseProvide security escort services when requestedProvide immediate response to difficult and/or abusive patients and visitors when requested by staff. Assist clinical staff in restraining patients when necessaryProvide security in high risk areasPerform dispatch communications function and monitor CCTVMaintain accurate records of request for service and other departmental activitiesAssign Incident Report numbers and complete accurate and detailed reports for security related incidentsAssist with investigations of criminal and/or suspicious occurrences in the medical centerCommunicates necessary information to other shifts, department administration, leadership and UPCD in a timely mannerDirect and coordinate response to service calls and alarmsAttend court or other legal proceedings to provide details of specific incidents as requiredPerform other duties assignedRequired QualificationsHigh school diploma or GEDValid Driver's LicenseCompletion of the following Training/Certifications provided by UCM within the first 180 days of employment:Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Verbal Intervention Training/CertificationInternational Association of Health Safety and Security (IAHSS) Advanced CertificationCPR/AED CertificationDefensive TacticsHandcuffing CertificationUse of RestraintsPreferred QualificationsAssociate Degree in Criminal Justice or equivalent field preferred.At least one year in health carePosition DetailsJob Type/FTE: Full-time (1.0) 8-hour shiftsShift: DaysUnit/Department: Security DepartmentCBA Code: Non-Union
