Production Supervisor – Nights Lead with Purpose, Drive Performance – Become our Next Impactful Production Supervisor. About Us Insteel Industries, established in 1953, has its Home Office in Mount Airy, NC. We are the nation’s largest manufacturer of steel wire reinforcing products for concrete construction applications. We manufacture and market prestressed concrete (PC) strand and welded wire reinforcement, including engineered structural mesh, concrete pipe reinforcement, and standard welded wire reinforcement for concrete reinforcement applications. The company operates eleven manufacturing facilities in nine states. About You The person we are looking for is energetic, success driven, manufacturing savvy, has exemplary leadership skills, and a deep passion for developing people. One who understands the principles of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and can manage a demanding manufacturing process that produces wire reinforcement products to build American infrastructure. You are a role model and leader to your peers and subordinates, and a key player in the success of the business. You believe safety comes first to achieve and sustain Zero Harm outcomes. Position Snapshot A Production Supervisor is commonly expected to direct and coordinate manufacturing operations of a single shift to meet company objectives and standards. This includes employee relations, safety, quality, efficiency, quantity, training, environmental compliance, and coaching associates in continuous improvement, serving as a positive role model. The role requires flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and overtime, to meet production demands. Key Responsibilities Directly supervise assigned personnel on assigned shifts, coaching and supporting all persons assigned to ensure personal growth. Responsible for employee relations, housekeeping, safety, production problems, training, and cost on the individual shift. Leads by example. Prepare for shift by checking production conditions with previous shift’s Production Team Leader, checking orders and scheduling production on machines, and ensuring material supplies are adequate. Conduct pre‑shift meetings: check for absentees, adjust assignments, distribute job assignments and inform employees of changes or events within the company; communicate plant goals and concerns to associates. Prepare daily reports on production, employee counseling, purchase requisitions and work orders for maintenance. Support and administer policies and promote a positive environment. Comply with all requirements related to both Oracle and Maximo systems. Lead the training and development of new team members to ensure successful integration and performance. Step in to perform operator duties when necessary to support production demands and staffing requirements. Maintain a strong presence on the shop floor (~70% of the workday) to support operators, address issues and drive operational efficiency, while dedicating the remaining 30% to administrative responsibilities. Act as a designated First Aid responder, providing assistance during workplace incidents and emergencies in accordance with company procedures. Inventory Conduct cycle counts. Coordinate scrap and inventory related functions to maintain a correct inventory. Monitor materials used in production and adjust entries in the computer system as needed. Check completed orders; make corrections on computer entries as needed; provide additional training for the employee on the computer system. Safety Conduct visual inspections of the plant to identify and correct potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations. Enforce use of safety equipment, conduct accident investigations. Recommend changes in policies and procedures to prevent accidents and illness. Lead toolbox safety/information meetings. Quality Check with the Quality Assurance Department on test results for equipment to ensure that only top‑quality product is being produced. Check quality of finished product and work‑in‑process throughout the shift to adjust as needed for improvement. Requirements and Education A minimum of 3 years previous work‑related experience is required. Individuals must have above‑average interpersonal skills with the ability to coach and develop individuals. Steel wire manufacturing experience preferred but not required. Professional or technical degree preferred (2‑year Associate Degree). Benefits Competitive base pay with bonus eligibility based on organizational performance.
