Marin County Printing Services is a full-service facility with state-of-the-art digital technology. ABOUT THE POSITION

The Department of Public Works is seeking one full-time (75 bi-weekly hours) contingent Reprographic Technician to work on-site in our office in San Rafael, CA .
The Reprographic Technician is a journey level class responsible for fulfilling print orders by performing skilled and specialized work on small multi-colored and large offset presses and/or high-speed copier/printers related to the printing and wide format reproduction of a variety of County records and documents.


The successful candidate will assist users with submitting job requisitions using the online print management application system. They will provide support in all aspects of the production schedule including interacting with users, cross-training in various department functions, setting priorities, tracking progress and resolving schedule conflicts and problems. Primary responsibilities also include participating in the ongoing administrative aspects of the Division. The position is located on the fourth floor in the Marin County Civic Center in our Reprographics Division.

Our Highly Qualified Candidate: Has a broad range of reprographics and printing expertise. They have excellent organization and teaming skills. They are customer and results focused. As a Reprographic Technician, the successful individual must be able to establish effective collaborative relationships and work in a high paced environment with others, while maintaining safety. They are able to operate and maintain printshop equipment. In addition, the ideal candidate pays attention to detail and is able to follow written and oral work instructions necessary for navigating successfully within the dynamics of the printshop.
QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge Of:

• Thorough knowledge of the types, qualities, weights and uses of paper, inks, solvents and patented products used with offset and xerography machines.
• Operation, adjustment, minor repairs and production capabilities of offset duplicating and high speed xerography machines.
• Methods and techniques of making plates and producing camera ready copy using computerized techniques.

Ability To

• Operate, adjust and maintain an offset duplicating and high speed/xerography machine and auxiliary equipment independently, safely, effectively and efficiently.
• Perform typesetting, layout, paste-up tasks accurately and efficiently.
• Follow written and oral work instructions.
• Perform basic arithmetical calculations.
• Set up, adjust and operate automated peripheral equipment such as collator, cutter, folder, various bindery equipment.
• Operate camera and platemaking equipment including stripping of negatives and developing of film and plates.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of education and experience and/or specialized training that would provide the knowledge and skills listed. Typically, equivalent to one year of experience in the operation of offset printing and peripheral equipment.

Certificates and Licenses
This position is required to travel between various County and business-related locations. Employees who drive on County business to carry out job-related duties must possess a valid California driver's license for the class vehicle driven and must meet automobile insurability requirements of the County.
