Student Counselor

Job Title Student Counselor Status Exempt Part-time (50%) Academic year schedule Reports To Director of Student Counseling Overview Provides a full-range of counseling services to Augustana students including individual and group counseling, psycho-educational programs and faculty and staff consultation. Job Duties Meet with individual students during assigned office hours to provide counseling and resolve issues, involving others on campus as needed and providing crisis counseling interventions. Provide counseling interventions based on a theoretical orientation using evidence-based practices. Plan, conduct, and evaluate psycho-educational group presentations as required, revising offerings to fit campus needs. Plan, conduct, and evaluate group counseling sessions. Document student meetings within the office protocols. Consult with faculty and other campus members regarding student concerns as appropriate. Collaborate with other counseling staff to integrate efforts and support program success; assist with activities to meet department goals. Attend recruiting/college events to promote counseling services or provide mental health information. Other duties as assigned. Skills & Experience 3-5 years of individual or group treatment with a college-aged population. Experience in programming and consultation with a varied client base similar to campus constituents. Experience providing crisis counseling interventions and assessing and screening for suicide risk or harm to others. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Working knowledge of computer software applications. Ability to relate to a diverse group of students and colleagues with sensitivity and competency. Spanish fluency highly preferred. Education & Licensure Graduate degree in counseling, psychology, or social work. Must hold a LPC or LSW license in Illinois; preference for LCPC or LCSW in Illinois. Physical Requirements Must be able to lift 15 pounds on a frequent basis and to listen, hear, speak, climb stairs, bend, stoop, and stand for intermittently long periods.
