Industrial Maintenance Mechanic

King County's Wastewater Treatment Division is seeking an Industrial Maintenance Mechanic to be a part of the East Mechanical Unit. Working as part of a team, this person will apply their maintenance experience to perform high-level repairs on a variety of rotating mechanical equipment, includingbut not limited tobiosolids decanting blowers, influent and effluent pumps, biogas scrubbing compressors, gearboxes, conveyance systems, and multiple piping systems. The ideal candidate is goal-oriented and contributes to a safe, collaborative, and positive work environment. They will support a team culture focused on effective communication, working closely with other groups, and following good shop practices to maintain a high standard of workmanship.

This position provides the opportunity to work collaboratively on major projects and repairs involving pumps, piping, gearboxes, and other critical plant equipment. The Mechanical team currently consists of 6 team members who work closely with Operations, Instrumentation, and Electrical staff to maintain equipment at Brightwater Treatment Plant and various offsite facilities. Job Duties

• Maintain, Repair, and Troubleshoot Equipment: Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and overhaul of a variety of complex machinery used in plant operations.
• Install and Maintain Piping and Plumbing Systems: Install, repair, and maintain piping and plumbing systems for sewage, water, gases, chemicals, and solids using appropriate materials. Fabricate and install metal fixtures, including vents, air ducts, doors, louvers, containers, equipment covers, machinery bases, and support members.
• Fabrication and Welding: Design, fabricate, and repair plant piping, equipment guards, and bases. Use welding equipment, including metal inert gas (MIG), tungsten inert gas (TIG), arc welding, cutting torches, plasma cutters, and plastic welders.
• Planning and Documentation: Plan equipment repairs using blueprints, engineering drawings, computer-aided design (CAD), Maintenance Information Management System (MIMS), operations and maintenance manuals, vendor data, catalogs, and other resources. Collaborate with CAD personnel to provide as-built drawings to support parts/material ordering, equipment assembly, and modifications.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support plant operations and maintenance.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

Qualifications You Must Bring:

• Knowledge and hands-on experience maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing pumps, motors, valves, and other rotating equipment used in industrial or wastewater systems including diagnosing mechanical failures and implementing appropriate repair methods. Use rigging and material handling devices to move and position heavy equipment and components.
• Skill in safely using hand and power tools, precision measuring instruments, and machine tools (lathes, mills, drill presses). Ability to safely perform welding, cutting, and metal fabrication activities in support of equipment maintenance and repair.
• Ability to understand and apply information from blueprints, schematics, manuals, and preventive maintenance procedures.
• Knowledge of industrial safety standards, including lockout/tagout, confined space entry, and proper handling of hazardous materials.
• Ability to work collaboratively with coworkers and other trades; communicate effectively in writing and verbally; and accurately document work in a computerized maintenance management system such as Maximo.

Required Licenses:

• Valid Washington State Driver's License

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of and experience with plumbing, pumps, hydraulics, welding, and rigging techniques and principles.
• Experience in heavy equipment mechanical maintenance, including repairs and understanding replacement criteria.
• Knowledge of and experience applying industrial safety standards and procedures related to mechanical maintenance.
• Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to read, write, and follow instructions accurately.
• Experience with equipment operation, installation, and commissioning.
• Experience planning and executing complex equipment overhauls.

Working Conditions:

• Work Location: Brightwater Treatment Plant - 22505 State Route 9 SE, Woodinville, WA 98072
• Work Schedule: This full-time position works a 40-hour work week, Monday - Friday. This position is covered under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is overtime eligible.
• Union Representation: This position is represented by S.E.I.U. 925 (Wastewater Treatment Division)
• Physical Requirement: Incumbents perform field work at a wastewater treatment plant and associated facilities and are required to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, work in confined spaces, use ladders, and there is exposure to hazardous chemicals, noxious odors and high noise levels. Use of respirators and other personal protective equipment (PPE) as required. A pre-employment physical, review of driving record and reference checks will be conducted prior to any final job offer.
