Job Posting Are you interested in sampling inspection and testing of materials that are used in construction and maintenance projects? The Iowa Department of Transportation's District 2 Materials Office is looking to hire a Materials Fabrication Inspector 1 who will be responsible for monitoring Aggregate Production in an 8-county region of District 2, Northeastern Iowa. Location: Decorah, Iowa Shift: 7:45 AM - 4:30 PM. Monday through Friday. Hours may vary, and the position is subject to be on call 24 hours a day during emergencies and/or weather conditions. Some overnight travel may be required. This position will be responsible for the following, but not limited to: Reviewing aggregate producer quality control programs that are maintained in accordance with the Construction and Materials Bureau. Evaluating the quality control (QC) program and staff of approved aggregate producers. Observing the production and testing procedures, reviewing documentation, records, and proficiency testing with the producer technicians. Sampling various materials from active construction and maintenance projects- including: reinforcing steel, steel piling, reinforcing bar splicers, bolts, and other fasteners. Witness calibration of production equipment. Monitoring the manufactured products, including epoxy-coated reinforcing steel, ready mix concrete, corrugated metal pipe, and reinforced concrete pipe. Performs duties related to highway maintenance and snow and ice removal as needed. Position must be able to interpret plans, specifications, instructional memorandums, and contract documents. Special Requirements: Technical certifications: Aggregate Technician, Level I PCC, Level 1 HMS, and Soils Technician, and other certifications as needed. Attend training courses and conferences as required to gain additional knowledge and to obtain and maintain required Technician Certifications. Certification for testing materials and operating specialized equipment as required by the Iowa Department of Transportation's Technical Training and Certification Program for Highway Materials and Construction; and/or other certifications as required. Class A and endorsements/restrictions on your CDL within 5 months following your hire date. Entry-level driver Training is available upon hire through the Iowa DOT. The multifaceted training will help meet all state and federal regulations. A successful U.S. DOT Clearinghouse query. A pre-employment physical verifying the physical ability to perform the duties described.
