About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 8 Weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 Hours Experience: Minimum 2 Years Experience License: Active RN License Certifications: BLS, NRP, Fetal Monitoring Training Must-Have: Labor and delivery experience, including the ability to labor and recover the mother as well as receive and transition the newborn, including assessment. Experience with shoulder dystocia, postpartum hemorrhage, and other potential obstetric emergencies preferred. Advanced skills needed in fetal monitoring and experience with inductions (Pitocin, Cervidil). Description: The unit consists of 9 labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum beds, 1 observation bed, 4 NICU beds, and 1 operating room suite. Patient ratios are 1:1 for active labors, inductions, and C-sections, with couplet care at 1:3 and newborns requiring 1:1 until stable. For the NICU, the ratio is 1:3 for intermediate care, but there must be 2 NICU nurses present in the unit if applicable. There are no technicians or unit secretaries available on the unit. Types of equipment include central monitoring, IV pumps, infant warmers, tele-med robots for neonatologists, bili-blankets, and PCA pumps. The documentation system in use is Meditech and CPN. Scheduling requires full-time shifts, with 3 shifts per week, rotating weekends and holidays. Regular staff are expected to float anywhere within the facility as needed. Some staff are cross-trained to float between labor and delivery and NICU. Patient experience requirements include daily rounding on all patients and safety rounding. The unit has experienced registered nurses with an average tenure of approximately 30 years. These nurses serve as great resources and preceptors for new staff. Several other nurses have been employed for 7 to 10 years and are also proficient and knowledgeable. The unit functions as a cohesive team and is very willing to assist new team members. As this is a combined labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum unit, it is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in labor, delivery, postpartum, and neonatal care.
