CNC Milling Machinist

Job Description

This position focuses on operating a variety of CNC milling machines equipped with FANUC controls in a high-volume production environment. You will machine high-value castings and forgings into precision components that meet strict quality, dimensional, and customer specifications, while supporting efficient, safe, and consistent production.

Responsibilities

• Operate a variety of CNC milling machines using FANUC controls in a production shop environment.

• Machine high-value castings and forgings into precision components that meet strict quality and customer specifications.

• Read, interpret, and follow blueprints, work instructions, and specifications to complete machining operations accurately.

• Perform complex and progressive CNC milling operations on a wide range of parts and components to close tolerances and specified finishes.

• Perform basic setups and adjustments for multiple jobs, including tooling changes and offsets, to support efficient production.

• Operate more than one machine when required to meet production schedules.

• Inspect finished parts using appropriate measuring tools to ensure conformance to quality and dimensional requirements.

• Identify and correct minor machining issues or deviations to maintain product quality.

• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in compliance with company safety standards and procedures.

• Support production needs by performing additional duties such as changeovers and assisting with other machining tasks as needed.

• Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding job status, issues, and improvement opportunities.

Essential Skills

• Ability to read and write English to follow work instructions, blueprints, and safety procedures.

• Preferred five or more years of combined formal training and experience in machining or equivalent background.

• Broad knowledge of machining techniques and familiarity with CNC machine tool operating procedures.

• Hands-on experience operating CNC milling machines, preferably with FANUC controls.

• Ability to apply recognized tooling and machining procedures to achieve tight tolerances and specified finishes.

• Strong blueprint reading skills, including understanding of dimensions, tolerances, and geometric features.

• Basic computer skills to navigate shop systems and documentation.

• Ability to consistently lift and move objects up to 50 pounds, with the capability to handle heavier weights when necessary.

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent education.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working with both vertical and horizontal CNC mills.

• Comfort working with large parts and components in a heavy machining environment.

• Familiarity with production shop workflows, including changeovers and running multiple machines.

• Attention to detail and strong commitment to quality and safety.

• Ability to work overtime, including weekends, when needed.

• Willingness to work on either first or second shift based on business needs.

Work Environment

You will work in a well-organized manufacturing facility with more than 61 machines and a strong focus on cleanliness and safety. The shop primarily uses Toyoda, Makino, Niigata, OKK, Matsura, and bore mills, with approximately 25% vertical mills and 75% horizontal mills. The environment centers on machining very large pieces and parts, requiring careful handling and attention to detail. Standard shifts include a first shift from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and a second shift from 4:20 p.m. to 2:50 a.m., Monday through Friday. Overtime is available after 40 hours, with double time on Sundays, and typical weekend work ranges from 5 to 7 hours, with the option to work up to 10 to 12 hours if desired. The facility emphasizes a safe, structured production setting with modern CNC equipment and clear operational procedures.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $125000.00/yr.
