Your Tasks

We are looking for a senior PHP developer who will not only operate but also shape our app backend. You are decisive, actively challenge, and bring together what otherwise runs against each other: highest quality and speed. You are self-confident, without being loud, and as a team player make the whole team better. Your area as a senior PHP developer:

• You are responsible for our entire app backend - from the core with our shop to the customer loyalty API and beyond. Our frontend runs on Flutter, the backend on PHP, consistently following a backend-for-frontend strategy.
• You design the backend architecture across all areas, rethink it where necessary, and challenge existing structures and technical dependencies. Every decision you make is documented in a traceable way.
• You derive from functional requirements what the systems must achieve. If a Black Week with corresponding load is coming up, you define early on what must be technically ready, what can be tested in advance and what else is needed so that the platform can carry the load.
• You are responsible for the quality standards - from CI/CD to test coverage and code quality - and make sure they are lived in the team, not just on paper.
• You introduce innovative development practices that make us faster and better, and derive clear indications for our DevOps from the architecture.
• You clarify technical requirements between IT product owners, specialist departments, and the dev team and translate reliably between business and technology.
• You actively mentor the devs in the team and are the first escalation point for technical problems and blockers. You lead technically, not disciplinarily.

Your Profile

Your strengths that we need in our team:

• You have several years of experience in backend development, ideally in the e-commerce environment, and have already had architecture responsibility.
• You are confident in PHP, preferably with modern frameworks like Laravel or Symfony, and in the conception, integration, and maintenance of RESTful APIs.
• You are familiar with cloud technologies and deployment workflows (Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform) and are familiar with MySQL or PostgreSQL as well as caching (e.g. Redis).
• You work cleanly: software architecture, design patterns, clean code (SOLID), object-oriented design, and TDD are standard for you, not optional.
• You make decisions, stand with a clear justification behind them and actively challenge requirements, architecture, and the status quo. Even at a high pace, you do not lose quality.
• You proactively introduce new technologies and approaches - always with a structured justification, never as an end in itself.
• You communicate in such a way that others like to work with you: clearly, bindingly, and on an equal footing with internal teams and external partners.
• You have very good German skills (at least C1) and fluent English in speech and writing. A residence in Germany is a prerequisite.
