The EHS Specialist II applies expanded knowledge of Environmental Health & Safety processes, systems, and organizational context to perform responsibilities with growing independence. The role solves moderately complex problems using experience and judgment within established guidelines. Work primarily impacts individual performance and may influence team processes. The position operates under general direction with some latitude for independent action and may guide less experienced colleagues. The role has no formal supervisory responsibilities but may provide informal guidance.

Ascent Industries Co. is a specialty chemicals platform delivering differentiated, performance-driven chemical solutions to a diverse set of end markets. The Company develops, manufactures, and supplies tailored formulations and intermediates that enhance product performance and optimize industrial processes. The Company's core product portfolio includes surfactants, defoamers, lubricating agents, flame retardants, and specialty intermediates, offered in both petroleum-based and bio-based formulations. Ascent's products are used as critical ingredients and process aids in applications such as cleaning formulations, coatings systems, oilfield production chemicals, agrochemical formulations, metalworking fluids, water treatment solutions, and industrial textiles.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Conducts routine safety inspections, audits, and workplace assessments to identify hazardous conditions, document findings, and support timely corrective action.

- Analyzes standard safety, environmental, and incident data to identify trends, compliance issues, and recurring risk factors within assigned areas.

- Evaluates work areas, equipment, materials, and planned activities for common hazards and recommends protective actions, controls, or equipment consistent with established requirements.

- Coordinates sampling, monitoring, and measurement activities related to workplace conditions and maintains accurate records of results, observations, and follow-up actions.

- Supports the implementation of safety policies, procedures, and training programs by preparing documentation, communicating requirements, and tracking completion of assigned activities.

- Investigates routine incidents, near misses, and employee safety concerns by gathering facts, identifying likely causes, and documenting recommended corrective actions.

- Monitors compliance with internal safety standards, regulatory requirements, and environmental procedures and escalates issues that require management attention.

- Assists with hazardous material handling, removal coordination, and related safety activities by following established protocols and ensuring appropriate documentation is maintained.

- Partners with operations, maintenance, and other internal stakeholders to address identified hazards, improve safe work practices, and support consistent execution of EHS requirements.

- Performs other duties as assigned. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Minimum 2 years of relevant professional experience required. Experience in specialty chemicals, manufacturing, or related industry may be required depending on the role.

- Requires a bachelor's degree.

- Ability to perform defined tasks with a moderate degree of autonomy, applying expanded knowledge of processes, systems, and organizational context.

- Ability to resolve moderately complex day-to-day issues using experience and judgment; evaluates options within established guidelines and escalates unusual problems to supervisor/manager.

- Ability to follow standardized procedures and practices; works under general direction with some latitude for independent action.

- Ability to communicate information that may require explanation or interpretation, including explaining policies, practices, and moderately complex concepts to others.
