About the Hampton‑Newport News Community Services Board Since 1971, the Board has provided the highest quality of behavioral health services to residents of Hampton and Newport News, offering programs for children and adults with mental illness, developmental disabilities, and/or substance use disorders. About the Hampton Roads Clinic (HRC) The HRC offers a specialized program for adults with a long history of opioid dependence. We provide comprehensive outpatient treatment and recovery services, including methadone maintenance medication prescription by a licensed physician, counseling, peer support, care coordination, and referrals to other social services. What it’s Like to be an LPN at the HRC You will play a vital role in client care by processing medication orders prescribed by clinic psychiatrists. Responsibilities include securing, storing, and disposing of medications while preparing related documentation, administering and recording medications, providing supportive counseling during medical assessments, conducting physical assessments, and documenting client behavioral and medical status. You will also manage inventory, maintain stock levels and reorder as necessary. Other duties include scheduling and assisting physicians with medical examinations, dispensing methadone while maintaining secure inventories, collecting laboratory specimens, following up on all medical concerns, and overseeing client self‑administration of medications to ensure comprehensive care. Qualifications Graduate of an accredited LPN nursing program. Minimum of one year experience in medication administration or in a substance abuse treatment, psychiatric setting, or long‑term care facility, including narcotic medication dispensing. Current and valid State Licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse from the Virginia State Board of Nursing. Candidates should have thorough knowledge of methadone administration, safety precautions, and common medications prescribed to our client population. Familiarity with regulations governing security, dispensing, and disposal of controlled substances is essential. Strong supportive counseling skills, accurate record‑keeping, and monitoring of methadone inventory are vital. Candidates must also be well‑versed in legal procedures related to mental health care, including HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 compliance. Background and Other Requirements The selected candidate must successfully pass a criminal history fingerprint background investigation, DMV record check, child registry search, drug screening test, and employment reference checks.
