Mental Health Treatment Aide Programming Supervisor

This full-time position is on the therapeutic housing units (THU's) throughout Rikers Island. Those in this position will work in collaboration with the unit-based mental health treatment team that includes a clinical supervisor, mental health clinician, creative arts therapist, discharge planner, and psychiatric provider. The Mental Health Treatment Aide Programming Supervisor (TAPS) plays an important role in establishing programming to meet the needs of the patients on the THU. They also conduct clinical mental health rounds and suicide watch evening rounds, lead therapeutic activity groups, perform crisis/de-escalation interventions, provide important input for patient care decisions, and contribute to quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities include participating in quality assurance and quality improvement with the mental health team, utilizing crisis and/or de-escalation intervention practices, identifying patient characteristics and environmental variables that may trigger agitated behavior(s), communicating such information to the treatment team, engaging patients regularly and contributing to the therapeutic milieu, performing clinical mental health rounds on the THUs as required, escalating clinical concerns when identified, orienting patients to the unit policies, procedures, rules, regulations and routine schedule, performing 1:1 monitoring of patients for behavioral management/modification purposes, participating in regularly scheduled, in person 1:1 supervision, participating in departmental clinical trainings as required, demonstrating a professional appearance and demeanor at all times, and performing other appropriate mental health duties as directed by team leaders or supervisors.

Minimum qualifications include a Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Public Administration, Public Health, Business Administration, or a related discipline, and one (1) year of full-time experience in an administrative capacity in business management systems, general administration, health care or medical/patient systems administration; or, a Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited college or university in Public Administration, Public Health, Business Administration, or a related discipline, and two (2) years of full-time experience in an administrative capacity in business management systems, general administration, health care or medical/patient systems administration.
