Who works at Atlas?

More than 50% of the current team are founders/have started things. Shawn, Ernest, Sung, Surendhar, Ismael, Jum, Yuan Ming, Darin Loh. We have several part-timers and advisors too.

Have you raised any money?

Yes. We raised a few million from firms and people like Y Combinator, Global Founders Capital, Suresh Shankar, JJ Chai, Eric Ye, Krish Sridhar, Derrick Ko, Alan Rutledge, Jeremy Au, Capital Code, Mighty Buildings, Sovereign's Capital, CM Ventures, etc.

Where is Atlas located?

We have a shophouse office (where a few of us stay) near Jalan Besar in Singapore. That said, we also believe in remote working which helps us dramatically expand the number of great people we can work with.

What's the culture like?

1. Focus on delighting customers. Be maniac about customer experience. Does the CEO pay the bill? People Ops (HR)? No! The customers pay the bill. An excellent way to achieve this is to understand the problems our customers are facing intimately, treat them the way we would like to be treated, and make products we will actually use ourselves.
2. Have abnormally high standards. Hold yourself and everyone to the highest standards. Care about every single detail. Every detail matters when you want to achieve greatness. Good standards are contagious. (Unfortunately, bad standards are too).
3. Be extremely reliable. Always do what you say you will do. This is the best way to build up trust quickly. Be on time and present. Don't give bullshit excuses. Don't make the same mistake thrice.
4. Disagree and commit. Have conviction and fight for what you believe in. Respectfully challenge decisions. Do not compromise for the sake of social cohesion. Once a decision has been made, commit wholly to making it work.
5. Make others successful. Put others ahead of yourself. We will get a lot more done if we don't care who gets the credit. Genuinely want success for others and go out of your way to help them achieve it. Don't wait for someone to ask for help or recognition. Giving is often better than receiving!

What's the interview process like?

1. Quick 45-minute screening interview to make sure we are on the same page. Here we try to briefly understand cultural fit, where you're at, what you're optimising for, strengths and weaknesses, relevant experience, etc.
2. 1-1.5 hour deeper interview with the functional lead. There may be some overlapping questions here because we don't like comparing notes between interviews to keep the process independent (for technical roles).
3. 6-8 hour practical interview (for technical roles).
4. Reference interviews (both from you and us finding mutual connections).
5. Optional, but we like to also have a "cultural immersion" with the rest of the team over a meal/drink if possible.

What's the technical stack that you're working on?

Our application is a multi-tenant SaaS product with support for isolated databases and compute instances, meaning each tenant gets a dedicated database (isolated data) and dedicated compute (highly scalable) to process requests. We built a custom API router (like DNS) to redirect requests to the correct destinations.

We primarily write code in Ruby and use Rails for our backend framework, and we use React (with Ant design + Tailwind CSS) for the frontend applications. We run our Rails applications on Kubernetes and serve our frontend applications utilising a mix of Firebase and Cloudflare Workers; they communicate through GraphQL/RESTful. Our custom API router is built on Cloudflare Workers and the KV store for high availability and performance. We use managed Postgres (Cloud SQL) and Workers KV to store application data.

What stage is the product at?

Atlas has achieved product market fit and is profitable — always still focused on working with many well-known brands closely to understand their problems deeply, to build the "perfect" product. Retention rates are around 90%.

What is work/life balance at the company?

We generally start around 9AM and end whenever we feel like. Even while working remotely, we try to overlap the number of hours together as much as possible — things are just moving so fast and there's often a lot of things to sync up on to move fast. At this stage of the company, raw hours makes a big difference so we do expect everyone to work hard (won't be forever), driven more by personal ambition, than clear guidelines around how much time one should pour in.
