Special Inspector

Job Description As a Special Inspector, you will perform inspections in accordance with approved plans, specifications, and applicable codes. You will read and interpret construction documents, RFIs, and structural details, conduct required field testing and inspections within your certification scope, and prepare accurate and timely daily reports. Your role will also involve effective communication with project managers, contractors, and internal staff, maintaining relevant certifications, and upholding strong safety practices in all field environments. Participation in continuing education and professional development is highly encouraged. Responsibilities Perform special inspections according to approved plans, specifications, and applicable codes. Read and interpret construction documents, RFIs, and structural details. Conduct field testing and inspections within certification scope. Prepare accurate and timely daily reports. Communicate effectively with project managers, contractors, and internal staff. Maintain and pursue relevant certifications. Uphold strong safety practices in all field environments. Participate in continuing education and professional development. Essential Skills Minimum of 2 years of experience in construction inspection. Experience in concrete testing, reinforced concrete, or materials testing. Experience as a construction or concrete inspector with ICC certification. Valid driver's license. Additional Skills & Qualifications Open to junior candidates with ACI-Concrete Inspection certification. Ambitious plans to grow and obtain additional certifications. Nuclear Density Gauge training and certification is a plus. Preferred certifications: ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician, ICC Reinforced Concrete, ICC Structural Steel & Bolting, ICC Proprietary Anchors, Certified Welding Inspector (CWI). AWS-CWI Welding with construction inspection experience is a plus. OBOA or WABO certification or ability to obtain within a few months. ODOT Certifications are a plus. Work Environment The role is predominantly in-field, accounting for 90% of the job. Depending on your level, you may have access to a company vehicle for traveling to different sites around Portland. While travel outside of Portland is not required, it is encouraged. As you advance in the role, you might be assigned to a single job site. The first project will most likely be at Kaiser Permanente medical center in North Portland, with additional projects across various sectors such as commercial, mixed-use, multi-family, schools, and highway scopes.
